Robert Pattinson Not Playing Spider-Man; A Bad Role Model?

BAD news, dear readers: Robert Pattinson won’t be slipping into a tight Lycra suit to play Spider-Man — despite recent reports to the contrary.

After Tobey Maguire — who has portrayed the titular character and his alter-ego Peter Parker for the past three movies — quit the franchise, it was claimed Pattinson would be stepping in to replace him for the fourth installment.

But, as Gossip Cop notes, Pattinson won’t be taking on the coveted role — he’s too busy.

The British actor, 23, is committed to a hectic upcoming slate that includes Bel Ami, Unbound Captives, and a potential Breaking Dawn production.

Sony Pictures, who are making Spider-4, have insisted the project will still go ahead but will now be released in 2012, instead of next year as previously planned.

It is thought they will now make a prequel about Peter Parker as a teenager instead, meaning Kirsten Dunst – who played love interest Mary Jane Watson — will also not return.

“Jurassic Park 4″ In The Works

Is Jurassic Park coming back from extinction to take another bite out of the box office? Nine years after Jurassic Park III hit theaters in 2001, Hollywood producers are planning to invite dinosaurs to roam the earth once again.

Joe Johnston, who directed the third installment, reveals a new movie will be closely followed by two more.

“There is going to be a Jurassic Park IV. And it’s going to be unlike anything you’ve seen. It breaks away from the first three – it’s essentially the beginning of the second Jurassic Park trilogy. It’s going to be done in a completely different way,” Johnson tells BoxOffice.com

Apple Indirectly Confirms Tablet Existence with Cease and Desist Letter to Gawker

Apple has indirectly confirmed the existence of their rumored Tablet after Valleywag started a scavenger hunt for evidence, offering up to $100,000 for photos, videos, or a chance to play with it.

The proof, while arguably thin, was enough to win the letter's author a consolation prize: zune passes and a DVD of Legally Blonde 2. Congrats!

Brad Pitt ‘Urges Angelina Jolie to Get Help’

RELATIONS between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie aren’t improving.

The Hollywood couple — who have been an item for over five years and raise six children together — are almost certainly calling it quits.

The final straw for Brad, sources say, came when the pair argued at a New York City restaurant after Pitt insisted Jolie seek professional treatment for her emotional demons and physical issues.

“Brad and Angelina are calling it quits,” one insider told the National Enquirer.

“For the short term they will put on a united front for their children, but behind the scenes it’s come down to deciding custody issues and sorting out their tangled finances.

Zhang Ziyi strikes back at rumour mongers

Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi has openly denounced allegations that she had an affair with a married businessman.

Rumours are swirling that this was the reason a group of hooded men splashed black ink over a billboard with her image on December 23.

Her lawyer has called it a "vicious" rumour and vowed to take legal action against the media responsible unless they voluntarily retract the story.

On the night of the incident, Zhang was spotted at the lobby of the Park Hyatt Beijing where swarms of paparazzi had gathered to cover Hong Kong actress Maggie Cheung and German architect boyfriend Ole Scheeren's rumoured engagement party.

While Cheung and Scheeren were no-shows, the paparazzi saw a group of men barge into the lobby looking for Zhang, making a scene and claiming that she had cheated people of their money and stole somebody's husband.

So, who out there has uninstalled IE8 from Windows 7?

Windows 7 gave users the ability to remove Internet Explorer 8 from the OS (well, the executable, but that’s a start). Has anyone out there actually made use of this feature?

So far, I’ve only come across a handful of people who’ve actively made the choice to dump IE. Most users, even those using other browser, don’t seem to think that it’s worth the effort to get rid of the browser, even though it’s only a few clicks.

Internet Explorer has managed to keep out of the negative security limelight, but in light of the reports that Internet Explorer might have played a part in the cyber attacks against Google and Adobe, the ability to remove the built-in browser from Microsoft’s new OS might be getting more press, and a workout, over the next few days.

Bigger is better,” the 23-year-old said in a video clip posted on PEOPLE.com this afternoon. “The first time I got them, I thought they’d be bigger, so now that I’ve had them in me… and I know what I really want in size… I know I’m going to be very excited….“

TIGER WOODS TO DONATE $3M TO HAITI EARTHQUAKE FUND

TIGER Woods is taking a giant leap back to respectability.

“Tiger Woods is working on sending a mobile hospital with 50 EMTs to go set up a triage,” rapper Russell Simmons told the New York Daily News newspaper.

Simmons and representatives from Wyclef Jean’s Haitian relief organization Yele have asked Woods to support the effort. Simmons’ spokesman has been in touch with Woods’ management team and they are “excited” about the idea.

“I am waiting to have the conversation [with Tiger] tomorrow morning,” Simmons’ spokesman Marcus Harris told the News. “I am hopeful that it is a yes.”

Tensions between Google and China complicate U.S. diplomacy

Google's threat to pull out of China after revelations by the search-engine giant that hackers in China stole valuable corporate secrets from its computer systems comes as the United States is making a concerted push for closer ties with the Asian giant.

A pullout could complicate a delicate diplomatic dance: The Obama administration would like China to make progress on human rights but also needs it to help press Iran and North Korea on nuclear issues and to restructure its economy so its people buy more and export less.

Still, some analysts said, Google's bombshell announcement Tuesday -- which included the news that it would stop filtering Internet searches on its site in China -- could also give the administration an opening to raise sensitive issues, such as human rights and cyber-espionage, without seeming like the aggressor. The broad, sophisticated nature of the attack on Google and at least 33 other firms, including Juniper Networks, Adobe, Yahoo, Symantec, Dow and Northrop Grumman, may move the issue of cyberattacks up on the diplomatic agenda, experts said.

"Pandamen" 8-Minute Trailer Released!

There's a lot of excitement being generated from the upcoming broadcast of Jay Chou's latest production "Pandamen". The massively budgeted action drama, featuring both a wave of new faces and a slew of veteran ones, expects to hit mainland Chinese shores by January 17th the earliest after Jay's self-directed project received the approval of the Chinese government (check out Sarah's coverage for more details). And with the broadcast of this new drama coming soon, an 8-minute trailer has been circulating around Chinese streaming sites Youku and Tudou for the past couple of days.

The new trailer is pretty much nothing short of awesome, as it feels as if though we were watching a Hollywood-produced movie trailer. The beginning initially sets us up with the two main male characters and lightly touches on their origins story, and the rest of the video raises bar on epicness as we are treated to exciting sequences from the drama.

Rihanna: ‘Chris Brown Was Controlling’

RIHANNA claims she began to spot warning signs before she was attacked by Chris Brown.

The Russian Roulette singer was left battered and bruised by Brown — her then-boyfriend — last February when he assaulted her in his car and in hindsight she could see the situation developing.

“There were control issues, insecurity,” said the singer. “When people are insecure they become very controlling and they can get very aggressive and in turn abusive. It doesn’t have to be physical.

“Like they would say bad stuff to you to make you feel lesser than them just so they would have control in the relationship. It takes a big toll on your emotions and on your everyday life. It changes you.”

Rihanna also revealed she was emotionally drained when she recorded latest album Rated R due to the attack, subsequent break-up and intense attention.

“When I was making this album, every day I was in a different mood,” said the 21-year-old. “Sometimes I was p***ed off, sometimes I was miserable, and every song brings out a different story.

Want really secure Gmail? Try GPG encryption

Perhaps Google's announcement that Chinese cyber attackers went after human rights activists' Gmail accounts has made you skittish about just how private your own messages are on the Google e-mail service.

Well, if you want to take a significant step in keeping prying eyes away from your electronic correspondence, one good encryption technology that predates Google altogether is worth looking at. It's called public key encryption, and I'm sharing some instructions on how to get it working if you want try it.

Unfortunately, better security typically goes hand in hand with increased inconvenience. But some human rights activists who used Gmail right now likely wish they'd put up with a little hardship to help keep hackers at bay. I'm not going so far as to recommend you use e-mail encryption, but I think this is a good time to take a close look at it.

I think that counts are a very good quarter for Intel.

Apple tries for 'adding a contact to a home screen' patent, but Android beat them to the punch

Despite the incredible realism of the drawing above to the left, we're probably not looking at iPhone OS 4.0 right here. Instead we've got Apple doing what Apple does: applying for a patent for some pretty vague functionality that may or may not end up in a device someday. No harm in that game, but it looks like Google's already done the "put a contact on the home screen with their picture" thing before Apple got a chance, as demonstrated on the right. There are other little tidbits to Apple's approach, however. Apple is naturally showing that little numeric badge we know so well, to show what sort of new activity the contact has (hopefully that pulls calls, SMS and email into one pretty little package, like we've seen on other modern operating systems), but Apple also mentions that "an icon associated with an entity can be temporarily displayed on the mobile device based on the proximity of the mobile device to the entity." So, Stalking 2.0. We like it, and hope to see it in some future iPhone software, but between the crazy broad claims in the rest of the patent and Android's prior art, we'd say Apple's chances of getting this 2008 submission approved are pretty slim.

Xiao Xiao Bin makes 700k a week and gets 4 personal assistants

Super cute and witty Xiao Xiao Bin is easily the top rising star in Taiwan over the past few months. Taking a look back at 2009, some stars stood out in mind as the media gave us full coverage on them with weekly, or even daily, updates. Remember homeboy goddess Yao Yao , the super-hyped return of variety host Zhu Ge Liang after being in hiding for 10 years, and Mark Chao whenever he goes to the gym or blogs about bubble wrap? Maybe these stars can get some breathing room now that the new prince of media coverage is 5 year-old Xiao Xiao Bin.

Xiao Xiao Bin attended SETTV's Entertainer Awards press conference with an entourage that consisted of his dad Xiao Bin Bin, younger brother Mini Bin, his uncle and his manager. The young star has been nominated for Most Notable B-Ka (second fiddle) along side other rising stars like the Virgin Prince Jing Wong. When asked about his chances of wining, Xiao Xiao Bin assured his fans by saying, "I will win!" When reporters asked why, he responded, "Because I'm very good at acting." In addition to answering questions directed to him, he also showed his professionalism by helping out with the microphones for other interviewees.

Anything Becks can do... Now Cristiano Ronaldo shows off his stunning six-pack in latest Armani underwear ad

He may be packing a smaller lunchbox, but the six pack certainly seems to be more pronounced.

Chiselled Cristiano Ronaldo flexes his muscles for the new Emporio Armani Men’s Underwear and Armani Jeans campaign after taking over from David Beckham.

During his two years with the Italian fashion house, Becks was thought to have benefited from a spot of airbrushing to accentuate his six pack (and his package).

Lindsay Lohan worried her sex tape will get leaked online

Lindsay Lohan's latest movie project is said to be "dynamite" - but she's praying no one ever gets to see it...

The Mean Girls star, 23, is bracing herself for the internet release of a sexplicit video file which shows her engaging in, ahem, "adult activity".

A 47-second tape of Lilo frolicking in the buff with a mystery male is currently being touted around LA.

We hear it was offered to top-shelf mag Hustler for £100,000. But with issues over copyright, the purveyor of this particular porn has been told he cannot profit from the video.

Instead, the cheeky chappie - a waiter with a well-known chain restaurant - has been instructed to release the footage to an "offshore porn site". Once the saucy footage has been downloaded there it can be picked up globally. Oops!

Apple Patents Show iPhone Stylus and Contextual Interfaces

It's iPhone 4 day! We've already seen rumors of a touch-sensitive case and an iMac-inspired concept. Now comes two actual patents filed by Apple that hint at stylus functionality and a customizable GUI.

According to Apple Insider, the first patent was filed in July 2008, and proposes a stylus outfitted with a conductive tip that would be compatible with the iPhone's screen. It also includes the option of a powered stylus that could include sensors capable of measuring force and angle.

It's possible—probable, even—that this is just a defensive patent by Apple to prevent third parties from creating a comparable device for iPhone use. But with the imminent arrival of iPhone 4, it's at least something to consider.

Alleged China attacks could test U.S. cybersecurity policy

But what the government can really do remains unclear

The attacks on Google and more than 30 other Silicon Valley companies by agents allegedly working for China is focusing renewed attention on the issue of state-sponsored cyber attacks and how the U.S. government should respond to them.

The U.S. has no formal policy for dealing with foreign government-led threats against U.S. interests in cyberspace. With efforts already under way to develop such a policy, the recent attacks could do a lot shape the policy and fuel its passage through Congress.

In a revelation that was surprising for its boldness, Google on Tuesday said that agents possibly working on behalf of the Chinese government had hacked into its computers -- and those of more than 30 other multi-national companies. Also hit: Adobe.

This is not the first time Beijing has been accused of state-sponsored espionage. Over the past five years, China has been implicated in dozens of attacks involving U.S. commercial, government and military targets. The most sensational of these involved a Chinese hacking group called Titan Rain, which in the early 2000s is believed to have stolen U.S. military and nuclear information.

Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron: Moving In Together?

Exciting, unconfirmed Zanessa news out of the tabloid world this morning:

Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron may soon become roommates!

A source told the print edition of In Touch Weekly that things keep getting better between this pair, as Hudgens wants to spend as much time with her man as possible.

“When Vanessa was apart from Zac while filming her upcoming movies Beastly and Sucker Punch, she realized how much she missed him and loved being around him all the time," the insider said. "When she got back to LA, she told him she wanted them to move in together."

Referring to the adorable pair as “as young, but very serious about each other," the friend adds that house hunting may soon commence.

Last week, in a similar move, Liam Hemsworth reportedly moved in with Miley Cyrus (and her parents). We'd like to send both these couples best wishes. May you never fight about dirty dishes in the sink!

Mac sales can't keep pace with cheap PCs, Apple slips to No. 5

Sales up 23% to 31%, say Gartner and IDC, but low-priced PCs gain share

While Mac sales in the U.S. were up 31% in the fourth quarter of 2009, Apple was unable to keep pace with exploding sales of cheap Windows PCs, and fell to the No. 5 spot in the U.S., research firm IDC said Wednesday.

Rival analysts at Gartner, meanwhile, pegged Apple's year-over-year growth at 23%, and also put it in fifth place, behind Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Acer and Toshiba. Apple's new position is down one from the same quarter in 2008.

The 40,000-Mac difference between the two research companies' numbers was enough for Apple to outperform the U.S. computer industry average by IDC's account, but come in under the average gain in Gartner's calculations. But even with fourth quarter gains three to four times greater than those in the third quarter, Apple's sales increases couldn't match the numbers of HP, which boosted its unit sales by 45%, and Toshiba, which grew its sales by 71%.

"The U.S. market last quarter continued to be very price driven," said Mikako Kitagawa, a Gartner analyst. "If a company is not in the low-priced market, it's absolutely difficult for it to increase market share. And Apple did not do as well as others in share because of its prices."

Motorola Backflip Launching March 7 on AT&T?

Mark this date on your calendar, Android fans: March 7. Phandroid is reporting from the infamous “anonymous tipster” that we’ll be seeing AT&T, the 4th and last major US carrier to sell Android, launch the long-awaited Motorola Backflip on that particular date.

The Backflip, a rather unique and crazily-designed reverse flip touchscreen phone that was officially announced at CES, will be a good alternative to the ever-popular iPhone; especially if AT&T loses exclusivity with Apple.

Phandroid reports that the handset will retail for $324 (I assume they mean $324.99 to be specific), thus causing the subsidized price to be much lower and more reasonable. The Backflip would likely do very well in that price range, but if sold for a higher cost it would not be as popular with the targeted younger demographic.

Obviously with this being a rumor, we don’t know for sure if this date. And frankly, even if we knew for sure that was the planned date, it’s always subject to change depending on network tests and other preliminary events that could get in the way. But we’ll keep our fingers crossed.

Victoria Beckham “The X Factor” US Judge

Simon Cowell wants Posh Spice on his US adaptation of Britain’ hit talent show The X Factor, tattles marvel. Former girl bander Victoria Beckham is being courted to join the judges’ panel of the US X Factor, it has emerged.

The former Spice Girl appeared alongside Cowell on American Idol this week and it’s thought he might want her for his new show. According to a new scoop, the cranky music mogul is willing to pay mega bucks to get the fashionista onboard for his new venture — which will also reportedly feature ex-Idol judge Paula Abdul.

Rumor: iPhone 4 may have touch sensitive case like Magic Mouse

Apple rumors are a dime a dozen and are always centering on the next big thing to come from the company. Many of the more recent rumors are centering on a new 4th generation iPhone and the long rumored Apple tablet.

A new iPhone rumor has surfaced that has the next generation iPhone having a case that is touch sensitive like the Magic Mouse. I admit that might be pretty darn cool if it is true. However, I am taking this rumor with a big grain of salt.

China cautions Internet companies

After Google announced it would quit China unless the nation's censors eased their grip, the government on Thursday offered an indirect but unambiguous response: Companies that do business in China must follow the laws of the land.

Beijing's comments, offered by two officials on Thursday, suggested that China was unlikely to give in to Google's demands that its search engine results be unfiltered.

In announcing its decision Tuesday to possibly leave the world's biggest Internet market, Google also cited a series of cyberattacks aimed at breaching the Gmail accounts of human rights advocates.

Several of those who say their e-mail accounts were hacked provided more details about those assaults on Thursday.

Ashley Greene is Hot

It's safe to say that Ashley Greene is taking the opposite approach to her Twilight Saga-inspired fame than co-stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.

While those two lay low, and cover themselves up, Greene continues to pose for various photo shoots, not donning many layers of clothing while doing so. Not that we're complaining, of course!

The actress will appear, completely naked, in the upcoming Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. Granted, she'll have her private parts covered by body paint... but still. The photos are hot.

Now, Ashley has been photographed for the February issue of Interview magazine. Inside the publication, she provides insight into life in the spotlight, but it's hard to focus on her words when she poses like this:

4Minute HyunA’s solo debut music video ‘Change’ has been given the ‘19 restriction’ label by KBS.

The MV was given regarded as inappropriate for those below 19 years from 13th January on KBS. As for SBS and MBC, the MV has been considered appropriate only for those 15 and above; and appropriate for all respectively.

Email leaks MacBook with Core i5 ahead of official launch

Apple has a very strong following of customers that wait with baited breath for the next announcement from the company of new and upgraded products. AppleInsider reports that an email sent around to members of the Intel Retail Edge program has leaked a new version of the MacBook Pro.

The email had a little banner for a giveaway of couple MacBook Pros sporting the new Intel Core i5 processor. Those processors have not been announced in the MacBook officially at this time. The Retail Edge Program from Intel is reportedly a program that tests retail employees knowledge of Intel gear allowing them to win chips that can be traded in for gear.

Windows Mobile 6.6 in Feb 2010 with native capacitive touch support?

Not long after those rumors about Windows Mobile 7 being delayed to 2011 appeared, here we have some rather confusing info coming from Taiwan: Microsoft may launch Windows Mobile 6.6 in February this year (possibly at MWC 2010).

Reportedly codenamed Windows Mobile Maldives, the 6.6 version of the OS should bring full support for capacitive touchscreen displays, in order to strengthen Microsoft’s “competitiveness against iPhone and Android-based platforms.”

Daniel Craig In Talks To Replace Robert Downey Jr. In 'Cowboys & Aliens'

Not even two full days have elapsed since Robert Downey Jr. officially departed "Cowboys & Aliens," but the "Iron Man 2" actor might already have a replacement in the form of James Bond.

According to Variety, Daniel Craig is currently in negotiations with DreamWorks and director Jon Favreau to fill Downey's stirruped boots in "Cowboys & Aliens," the upcoming film based on the Platinum Studios graphic novel series.

Craig would play protagonist Zeke Johnson, a Western hero that must unite a group of Apache Indians and his fellow gunslingers alike against the common threat of alien invasion.

While Craig's involvement is still not fully confirmed, it appears that Downey's departure is. The actor had an on-again off-again relationship with "Cowboys & Aliens," having once told MTV News that his participation in the project was far from a certainty. If Downey had found time to film the movie, it would have marked his third collaboration with Favreau.

Producer: Stars Queuing for Cowell Spot on `Idol'

The search for a new "American Idol" judge to replace Simon Cowell next season is quickly taking on epic proportions.

British mogul Simon Fuller, who created the template for the U.S. show with "Pop Idol" in the U.K., says there's been a global outpouring of celebrity interest in the job.

And there's no apparently no rush to fill it.

"A day doesn't pass that I don't get a call from an agent of a superstar saying, 'Can we talk?' ... Everyone's interested, and that's going to go on month after month," said Fuller, whose company, 19 Entertainment, produces "American Idol" with FremantleMedia North America.

Fuller, in Los Angeles from London to watch the start of Hollywood week auditions for "American Idol," said he has enjoyed seeing the chemistry emerge between newcomer Ellen DeGeneres and the acerbic Cowell.

DeGeneres was chosen to replace original panelist Paula Abdul, who left over a salary dispute. Guest judges, including Victoria Beckham, filled in during the cross-country auditions that kicked off the season Tuesday. The episodes from Hollywood with DeGeneres start airing Feb. 9.

Angelina Jolie “Very Scared” Of Jennifer Aniston?

Angelina Jolie, vixen/mother of six, may not be as tough as we think.

Five years after Brad Pitt left Jen and began dating his Mr. & Mrs. Smith co-star Angelina, the two women still can’t stand to be in the same room together. Brangelina have turned down an invitation to the Golden Globes next month, even though Brad’s film Inglorious Basterds is nominated for three prizes. The official reason is that Brad can’t be bothered because he isn’t up for an acting award, but an insider tell OK! Magazine that the real reason is because Angelina is “frightened” of Jennifer. In fact, tattles say Angie is terrified of an encounter with her man’s ex-wife.

“Angie knows everyone would be looking for any interaction with Jen,” the source says. “As strong as she may look, she’s actually very scared of Jen.”
