Windows Mobile 6.6 in Feb 2010 with native capacitive touch support?

Not long after those rumors about Windows Mobile 7 being delayed to 2011 appeared, here we have some rather confusing info coming from Taiwan: Microsoft may launch Windows Mobile 6.6 in February this year (possibly at MWC 2010).

Reportedly codenamed Windows Mobile Maldives, the 6.6 version of the OS should bring full support for capacitive touchscreen displays, in order to strengthen Microsoft’s “competitiveness against iPhone and Android-based platforms.”

Other than that, we don’t know how Windows Mobile 6.6 will be different from Windows Mobile 6.5 (launched in the second half of last year).

Most likely, WM 6.6 will be just a minor update to WM 6.5, possibly looking like the WM 6.5 Build 23022 seen above – but let’s wait for February to come and see what it will bring.
