Though the HTC Droid Eris soldiers on in user pockets in a variety of guises, Verizon has unsurprisingly decided to disavow future updates for the canceled device. Carrier spokespersons told Computerworld that the Eris won't see Android 2.2. "We have other options in Android devices, so this is part of the normal evolution of our portfolio," a spokeswoman reportedly said. While we didn't really expect Verizon to pull a T-Mobile and support phones that died even before the original G1, we have to imagine there'll be a few ruffled feathers at that particular choice of words. No one likes to be told to buy a new device in order to get a software update. On the plus side, we expect XDA-developers will get a few new members this week, the better to unleash the potential of future neglected devices for us all.

Remember the mysterious reference to iProd 2,1 that appeared in the iPad's code? We thought it might be a new CDMA or camera-equipped iPad, but it just might have been the new iOS-based Apple TV instead. Diving through the iOS 4.2 beta, a TUAW tipster allegedly uncovered the above key, which hints that we might have been right about the device's app potential all along. Though Apple may rely on a simpler media streaming UI for the home theater to enhance accessibility and ease of use, there's always the chance the community might jailbreak the $99 set-top box to do far greater things.

The press release from earlier today provided all the textual details, but now we've gotten our own eyes on the Samsung Galaxy Tab accessory lineup -- not to be touched at the event, but we could gaze all the same. Pictured above is the $99.99 keyboard dock that gives you a full physical QWERTY on top of a charger / sync dock, along with stereo audio output. Then comes the desktop dock (formerly referred to as the HDMI dock) that allows you to watch videos up to 1080p, view pictures, and listen to music via HDMI All the pictures are below, can ya dig?out. Last but not least is the car / GPS dock for $99.99, for GPS turn-by-turn navigation on the go.

That's right! Once again, Samsung's gotten all four of the major US carriers in its court -- and just as we'd heard, the 7-inch Galaxy Tab will be heading to Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile sometime during the October / November timeframe. We wish we had more to share on the availability part, but Samsung's leaving that and the pricing announcements to the carriers. (We do know that the keyboard dock will cost $100 and the desktop dock $50.) We got to check out the US version of the Galaxy Tab earlier today, and its raw specs -- 1GHz Hummingbird, Android 2.2, 7-inch, 1204 x 600 WSVGA resolution display, front and rear cams -- were exactly the same as the one we previewed last week at IFA. However, Samsung tells us that TouchWiz will be tweaked slightly for the stateside crowd -- it won't have the Reader or Music hubs, but will have the social networking apps and a new Media Hub. There will also be preloaded carrier apps -- for instance, AT&T's version will come with its Connection Manager. Obviously, we can only hope that Verizon's wised up and isn't planning to totally Bing-out its Tab. No word on an unlocked or WiFi version hitting the US, but apparently it's being talked about internally. We'll be bringing you some more hands-on shots soon and trying to dig up more on pricing.

Yesterday Joey Yung held a press conference at a hotel, officially announcing that her NOKIA JOEY YUNG CONCERT NUMER 6 will be held on November 19th through November 24th. This is considered ther 6th time holding a personal concert in Hong Kong Coliseum, breaking past records. She becomes the first female singer to hold a HK Coliseum concert 6 times within 10 years.
Old concert ticket in exchange for dinner with Joey
Dressed in a gold KTZ extreme exaggerated pants, Joey revealed that she went to Paris to get her concert costumes, she hopes that her costumes can bring a gorgeous feeling. Speaking of her level of sexiness, Joey laughed: "I am already 30 years old, opening my 6th concert, put the hot singing and dancing aside, will lower my sexiness a little. (You are already very low?) Maybe my conscious is more daring!"

Yahoo made some key changes to one of its most important products today, rolling out a new look for Yahoo Mail.
Blake Irving, the company's new executive vice president and chief products officer, unveiled the new design at Yahoo's headquarters here during an event optimistically called "Product Runway." Yahoo said that its 281 million Yahoo Mail users will start seeing the new design this fall as it rolls out an opt-in beta version of the service, which is one of the key drivers of traffic to Yahoo's array of news and entertainment Web sites.

Uh, oh, looks like Verizon has indeed distanced itself from Microsoft after the Kin debacle: the carrier confirmed to Bloomberg Businessweek today that it won't offer any Windows Phone 7 devices at launch this year, instead waiting until 2011 to support the new OS. That certainly ties right in with AT&T's claims that it'll be the "premier carrier" for Windows Phone 7 and the flood of Blue-tinted device leaks we've seen, but it also leaves Microsoft in a seemingly tough spot to start -- we haven't heard more than the slightest whisper about WP7 devices on Sprint or T-Mobile yet, and until we do it's going to be the iPhone and WP7 head-to-head on Ma Bell while Android continues to dig in everywhere else. We'll see -- this launch can't come quickly enough.

The CEO of Best Buy just said the iPad is cannibalizing 50% of the company's laptop sales, the Wall Street Journal reports.
When consumers walk into Best Buy now, they don't look at or want laptops, instead they're drawn to the iPad. "People are willing to disproportionately spend for these devices because they are becoming so important to their lives," says CEO Brian Dun.
Bad news for Dell, HP, Acer, and Microsoft.

We leaked this mysterious HTC device a couple weeks back, and now we have to ask… Since it so closely resembles the recently announced HTC Desire HD, do you think this will make its way to Verizon Wireless as the rumored world-capable handset, or something else entirely? Maybe LTE support? Let us know what you think!

Today, AT&T’s operations CEO, John Stankey, said that his company would be launching its LTE network by mid-2011 and would cover 70-75 million potential customers. The CEO made this known at the “Bank of America Merrill Lynch 2010 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference” where he was a speaker. Mr. Stankey also noted that AT&T has spent just over $700 million in LTE capital expenditures this year; a figure the company plans to go “far beyond” in 2011. Currently, AT&T is conducting LTE field trials in Baltimore and Dallas.

The Music Man himself admits that he has fallen in love with dressing up as different personas. It’s evident in his previous “Change Me” MV and his latest movie “Love In Disguise” – playing triplets of himself (Xiao Wang, Xiao Li, Xiao Hong) to form a band and a 'Brother Sharp'-like student (Ah-De) to meet his crush. Leehom once again, dresses up as a different persona for his new MV, “Beauty” ("美"); He goes hip-hop by wearing a fur coat, four silver necklaces, and other bling-things.
Leehom revealed that his hip-hop double is named Wang Li-Xiong (‘bear’) because of all that synthetic fur! He joked, “He is a top of the class hip-hop singer that I specially invited from the states. His rapping skill is even better than mine.”
Don't blink -- you might just mistake ViewSonic's new G Tablet for the ViewPad that we handled back at IFA. This guy, however, packs a very different list of internal specifications in a 10-inch tablet form factor that's beginning to look all too familiar. Showcased for the first time last night in New York City, this guy dumps Intel's Atom in favor of NVIDIA's Tegra 2, and rather than booting a pair of operating systems, it relies solely on Android 2.2 -- a mobile OS that Google has specifically said isn't tailored for use on slates. At any rate, there's also 1GB of RAM, a 1024 x 600 resolution panel, USB / HDMI, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, 16GB of storage, a 1.3 megapixel camera and a chassis that measures 9.96- x 6.5- x 0.5-inches. We're told that it handled 1080p media without any trouble, and while the capacitive touchpanel was deemed "beautiful," the ultra glossy coating will certainly turn off those who plan to visit the great outdoors. It's expected to hit shelves in October with a lofty $529 retail price, and with that, we'll simply wish it the best of luck and point you to the video past the break.

Attention iPad owners pining for Flash-based games you enjoy playing on your PC: a start-up called iSwifter is launching technology today it says provides a way to tap into those games hosted on the Net.
Apple has banned Adobe Systems' Flash Player from its iOS devices, and although it recently relented on a broader ban of Flash-derived applications, game developers must retool those programs before they may be submitted. iSwifter's approach, though, provides a conduit to those games running on servers on the Internet.
