The iPad's presence on the Web—or at least certain parts of it—is already rivaling that of much more prevalent devices. According to initial data from Web metrics firm NetApplications (via IDG), Apple's tablet device has averaged about 0.03 percent of all Web traffic per day in the first 10 days after launch, nearly matching the March numbers for the BlackBerry and catching up quickly to other mobile devices.
The iPad's Web share grew steadily from April 3 until the weekend following the launch, April 10 and 11. At that time, the number peaked at 0.04 percent both days before settling back down as users went back to work. Comparatively, NetApplications recorded an average of 0.04 percent for BlackBerry devices over the month of March, while all versions of Android together came in at 0.07 percent, as did Windows Mobile.

Those sleuthing Apple informants seem to have struck gold once again. After noticing a continuous stream of AMD bosses and representatives travelling to and from Apple’s Cupertino campus, they’re now reporting that Apple is seriously considering the #2 chipmaker as a replacement for its current Intel offerings. Apple is thought to be unhappy with Intel, whose prolonged chip development cycle has slowed the pace of Apple’s hardware refresh and whose incompatibility with Nvidia has forced Apple to use the less than optimal integrated Intel graphics chipset. In fact, Apple’s dissatisfaction with Intel’s GPU performance is what prompted the company to develop the novel automatic graphics switching utilized by its recently refreshed MacBook Pro line-up. The hardware work-around allows the notebook to switch from the integrated Intel chipset to the more powerful NVIDIA GT 320M and GT 330M cards when needed. AMD, with its strong ties to ATI, could seemingly offer Apple greater flexibility over its future products which might one day include a powerful graphics subsytem worthy of the Apple name. Before you get too excited and sell your new Core i5 and Core i7 MBPs on eBay, keep in mind that all of this is speculation based upon the rather ambiguous, yet highly referenced “people familiar with the matter”. Respond appropriately.

It’s always been difficult to get a handle on the size of Twitter because as we learned earlier this week, 75 percent of its activity occurs outside Twitter.com via third-party desktop and mobile clients. But at least we could look at Twitter.com traffic as a proxy for the overall ecosystem and get a sense of growth trend by looking at data from outside traffic measurement services.
According to the latest numbers from comScore, for instance, Twitter.com attracted 79.4 million unique visitors worldwide in March, 2010, a 316 percent increase from a year ago. ComScore lists Twitter as the 30th largest site in the world now, bigger than Craigslist, Sony Online, and Expedia.

How can you not love Sprint when it pulls stunts like this? Following up on its 4G iPhone commercial, the Now Network has absolutely outdone itself with the introduction of the Sprint 4G Case for iPad. That’s right… the Sprint 4G Case for the freakin’ iPad. Available for free at Best Buy with the purchase of a Overdrive 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot, the case — which technically is a folio plus removable zip-up sleeve — will not only afford your iPad a lot more protection than Apple’s craptastic iPad case, but also give you significant amounts of geek cred. And life’s all about the geek cred, right? Respects.

It’s official: America’s Sweetheart Jennifer Aniston launching a new fragrance this summer called Lolavie. She talked with Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) about her decision to join Kim Kardashian, Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, and the numerous other celebs crowding the perfume counter, and revealed a new ad that shows her lounging on a rock, wrapped in a towel — shivering.
“It’s been a year-and-a-half journey. I’d been asked to do things before, and it never felt organic,” Aniston told WWD Friday. “But when Leon [Falic, president of the Falic Fashion Group] approached me to be involved with the process from inception to fruition, I thought, ‘This could be a creative expression,’” she explained.

So, was all that hubbub for nothing? British retailer mobiles.co.uk -- a wholly-owned subsidiary of giant Carphone Warehouse, for what it's worth -- is claiming a "man on the inside" as saying that the X10 actually can do multitouch after all, despite word from a Sony Ericsson product manager to the contrary. In fact, not only can it do multitouch, but it will do multitouch through a software update in the second half of the year, the source goes on to say. This all ties in nicely with the dude's claim that the X10 will see an official update to Android 2.1 in September, a window that dovetails rather nicely with Sony Ericsson's official line of 2H 2010. Of course, by the time September rolls around, we can only assume that Froyo will be alive and well, so the ultimate question of relevancy for Sony Ericsson's very first Android venture remains to be answered.

Layer Cake director Matthew Vaughn’s send-up of the superhero genre Kick-Ass has already earned the hearts and minds of fanboys everywhere. But how will it do in theaters? Right now the film, about a group of regular people who become superheroes, is obviously tracking really well with young men. It’s also scoring with teens. But that audience is going to have more trouble getting into the R-rated flick. This weekend also marks the debut of the R-rated Death at a Funeral starring Chris Rock and Tracy Morgan. The film, a remake of the 2007 British indie comedy, is likely to be Lakeview Terrace playwright Neil LaBute’s most commercial debut yet. How well it does all depends on the cross-over potential for the predominantly African-American cast. It will also be interesting to see how the high-profile holdovers — Clash of the Titans and Date Night — score with audiences in their subsequent weekends in theaters.

Apple’s share of the U.S. market for computers grew 34 percent year over year as the company sold an estimated 1.4 million Macs, according to new research.
Gartner estimates that Apple now has 8 percent of the total domestic market for PCs, and for the first three months of 2010 was the fifth-largest PC vendo, behind HP, Dell, Acer and Toshiba.
Hype for the new iPad likely helped Mac sales for the quarter, Gartner says.
