Tired Kristen Stewart can't hide the heavy bags under her eyes as Twilight tour takes a toll

With heavy bags under her eyes and a weary look on her face, it seems the colossal Twilight promotional tour is taking its toll on Kristen Stewart.

The 20-year-old actress looked pale and tired as she made yet another appearance to promote The Twilight Saga: Eclipse on The Today Show this morning.

Despite wearing a glamorous tight white mini dress, the bags were clearly visible under Stewart’s eyes, and she looked paler than usual under her make-up.

In the past few weeks, she’s travelled across the globe on a whirlwind of promotional duties for the third instalment in the vampire franchise, attending premieres in Rome, Los Angeles and Sydney.

Oh boy! Is Lady Gaga posing as a man in new gender bender fashion shoot?

With her wardrobe of shocking outfits, she’s never been one to shy away from the outrageous.

But Lady Gaga seems to have managed to pull another fashion surprise out of her seemingly endless repertoire, by posing as a man.

A series of new photographs appear to show the controversial singer dressed in a series of suits and shirts, with her normally platinum hair gelled up in a dark quiff.

Gone are the usual extravagant costumes usually favoured by the star. In their place are sombre suits and conservative white shirts.

The photos were taken in London by renowned photographer Nick Knight and arranged by regular Gaga stylist Nicola Formichetti.

They are set to appear in a men’s fashion editorial for the September issue of Vogue Hommes Japan.

Verizon iPhone coming in January?

Verizon Wireless customers who have been holding out for an iPhone on their carrier's network may finally get their wish early next year, according to Bloomberg News.

The wire service reported on Tuesday that Verizon Wireless will start selling Apple's iPhone in January. Bloomberg cited unnamed sources familiar with the plans. The deal, if true, would end AT&T's exclusive contract for the iPhone in the U.S. since its launch in 2007.

AT&T and Verizon Wireless representatives declined to comment on the latest rumors.

Neither AT&T nor Apple has ever disclosed the length of the exclusive contract AT&T has for the iPhone. But speculation of an impending Verizon iPhone have popped up periodically since the iPhone's runaway success began in 2007. It's been reported that Verizon originally turned down the exclusive rights to offer the phone due to unappealing demands from Apple.

AT&T's network troubles caused by the flood of data traffic created by the iPhone has only exacerbated the demand for a Verizon iPhone.

"If Verizon had the iPhone, I'd find a way to cancel my AT&T service today," said Dave Norfleet-Vilaro, a loyal iPhone subscriber who stood in line early Tuesday morning at an AT&T store to get the iPhone 4. "It's just ironic that I am waiting at an AT&T store where I've received the worst customer service."

Samsung Epic 4G preview

We've seen our fair share of Samsung Galaxy S phones in the past few weeks, but the Sprint Epic 4G version (or the Galaxy S Pro, as we'd previously suspected it would be known) looks like it could take the cake. The phone has all the same specs as the others family members -- including a 1GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor, 5 megapixel cam, a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen, and Android 2.1 -- but it also boasts a front facing camera and a physical keyboard. So, is the new slider as epically amazing as we've been imagining? We got to spend some time with a unit this afternoon, so hit the break for some early impressions and a quick video.

Actor Park YongHa discovered dead at home

Breaking news: Park Yong-ha was discovered dead at his Nonhyun-dong, Seoul, home on the morning of June 30. I’ll update with details if/as they become available.

I am in utter shock. WHAT?

Park Yong-ha died at the age of 32, having debuted fifteen years ago in youth shows like KBS’s 1995 Love Blossoms in the Classroom and 1996’s Start. He shot to fame with 2002’s Winter Sonata, which made him a household name and a “Hallyu star.” He used that fame as a springboard a singing career in Japan, where he enjoyed quite a lot of popularity. He had a successful drama hit in 2008’s On Air, and totally stole my heart in 2009’s Story of a Man, which is one of my favorite dramas EVER.

Usher invites Will Pan, Han Geng, Jay Chou, David Tao to upcoming concert

On July 11th, American R&B star Usher will hold a concert in Beijing for the first time in Wukesong Arena. While the concert date is quickly approaching, the official guest performers for his concert had not been finalized as of yet. Usher did provide a list of invited esteemed guests requested by him as possible acts, including some of East Asia’s premiere singers such as Will Pan, Jay Chou, Han Geng, and David Tao.

One of the factors that motivated Usher in holding a concert in Beijing was to hold a cultural exchange and friendly communications with his Mandopop star counterparts, as well as having the opportunity to collaborate and dance alongside them on stage. In terms of dancing, Usher was specifically interested with Will Pan, whom has released strings of hit songs that highlight his dance moves; and Han Geng, whom achieved acclaim for his dancing due to his training from his Super Junior days.

Did 'Eclipse' Producer Confirm Robert Pattinson & Kristen Stewart's Romance?

There has been a lot of rumors about whether Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are in fact dating or just playing up their romance for the cameras to help the 'Twilight' franchise. Well, 'Eclipse' producer Wyck Godfrey may have officially spilled the beans ... we think.

When TIME asked about what's exactly going on between Pattinson and Stewart, Godfrey revealed, "If you look at people who have a stable personal life, the rags get tired of them. I think we're heading to that place where they are together and that's their life and we better find someone new to create drama out of."

"I honestly don't think of it in terms of business. It doesn't affect our core business at all. The thing I do think about is, Oh my God, I hope they stay together. Because it could be awkward on set in the next movie if they have a huge falling out. It's like, Wow, they have to portray this love story through two more movies. God, I hope they stay together; please stay together. That's what affects my day-to-day," Godfrey adds.

'Paranormal Activity 2' trailer: a dog, a baby, and a bump in the night. Oh, man...

A baby in a crib. That same scary noise. A dog. Hanging cookware swaying in a fancy kitchen. The shadow of what looks like demon Katie from Paranormal Activity. Oh man, why did I watch this Paranormal Activity 2 trailer before going to bed? I’m now freaked out. What is going on with this sequel, other than tapping into my primal fear of children in peril? Not sure I can handle this one. Can you? Take a look and weigh in.

Eight things to look forward to in Windows 8

Want to know what's on tap for Windows 8? If a leaked slide deck is real, you can find out now. If the deck is true, here are eight things to look forward to in Windows 8.

The information about Windows 8 surfaced after Microsoft Kitchen blogger Stephen Chapman found them on a slide deck on the Italian Windows site Windowsette. Microsoft, by the way, has not confirmed whether the deck is real.

Among the more interesting details in the deck are these:
  1. An apps store. Apple's App Store has been a raging success, as has Android's Market. So Windows 8 appears as if it will also have an app store called, not surprisingly, "Windows Store." But there are no indications how Microsoft will manage the countless thousands of apps available for Windows, or many other details about the store at this point.
  2. Improved energy efficiency. The slides spend a good deal of time describing the many ways in which Windows 8 will be more energy efficient, including an update to the core kernel manager, reduced power use while idle, better sleep and resume, and more.
  3. Faster startup. Windows 8, according to the slides, will feature faster startup through a new feature that combines the Logoff and Hibernate states.
  4. Push-button reset. This will allow you to re-install Windows with the push of a button. Most important is that Windows will retain all of your files, settings, applications, and so on, without wiping them out.
  5. Face recognition. This new safety feature will let you log on using face recognition.
  6. Support for slates. Slates are one of the form factors Windows 8 will support. WindowsPad anyone?
  7. Better help and support. Every time a new version of Windows comes out, this seems to be on the punch list. We'll have to see if this time it actually happens.
  8. Better identity management. The decks lay out a vision in which user accounts don't just live on one PC --- you can carry them from computer to computer, and to other devices. Identities can live and be backed up in the cloud. As a slide puts it, "Identity evolves from machine centric to user centric."

Sprint admits to HTC EVO 4G shortages. HTC Desire to get Sony SLCD displays

Not that shortages of Sprint HTC EVO 4G needed any confirmation, but now we have it anyway, directly from the lips of Sprint CEO Dan Hesse.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, Sprint CEO admitted that EVO 4G proved “more popular then Sprint or HTC could foresee”, and that “they are facing shortages in some places due to better than expected demand” .

Reuters was also able to indirectly confirm that the culprit for the latest HTC smartphone shortages was Samsung, who is not able to meet the demand of display panels for the handsets.

Without mentioning Samsung directly, HTC rep. Keith Novak confirmed what we have speculated over the weekend. HTC has now added Sony as a second supplier of the displays. And, in addition to Korean Nexus One, they will start using Sony SLCD screens for HTC Desire handsets sold in Europe and Asia.

SM Entertainment will respond actively to TVXQ trio’s demand for compensation of 3 billion KRW

SM Entertainment’s official stand on Dong Bang Shin Ki trio’s lawsuit to demand for compensation is that they will be responding to the lawsuit actively.

News surfaced on 28th June reporting that the trio had demanded for a total of 3 billion KRW in compensation from the agency. And SM’s response to that was, “We will be responding actively to the lawsuit for compensation through our legal representatives.”

News reports have also surfaced quoting that the lawsuit is of no problem for SM Entertainment since it has at least 50 billion KRW in cash reserves.

Samsung T-Mobile Vibrant and Verizon Fascinate preview

You'd think we'd be totally sick of Samsung's Galaxy S phones after seeing AT&T's Captivate and Sprint's Epic 4G, but we're just not done lovin' the 4-inch Super AMOLED, Android devices. Verizon's Fascinate and T-Mobile's Vibrant happen to be the last two Sammy phones to jump into our hands-on, but coincidentally, they're also the most alike. Design-wise, both remind us of the iPhone 3G / 3GS -- they're all screen on the front, strikingly thin, and have black shiny backs. And just like the Captivate and Epic 4G, they've got four touch sensitive buttons along the bottom edge. The Super AMOLED screens continue to impress, and watching a clip of Avatar on both versions was pretty breathtaking. (No, we didn't have an iPhone 4 on hand for comparisons, but make sure to check out the post where we put them head-to-head).

We didn't get to put the 1GHz Hummingbird CPU to the test in our short hands-on time, though both Android 2.1-running phones seemed to perform briskly when opening videos and pulling up the browser. Beyond Samsung's TouchWiz skin, both are preloaded with Swype and other carrier apps -- Verizon's version had Skype Mobile as well as a number of VCAST applications. Oh, and unlike most of the other Galaxy S phones, the Fascinate had a flash on its backside. We don't have much more on these bad boys for now -- we're still waiting on pricing and availability -- but the pictures and videos after the break should hold you over.

Does trimming the iPhone 4's micro SIM fix the antenna issue? Probably not.

Ever since Apple decided to do little about the iPhone 4's pronounced reception issues except suggest that users hold the thing differently and / or buy a nice case, the voodoo engineering remedies have been flying in full force -- sure, we'll admit we tried sticking some tape over the side of our phone (no dice), but we stopped short when people suggested we try a couple coats of nail polish (insanity). Even we have limits, after all. But the latest snake oil fix is definitely the craziest we've heard so far: according to a 13-page (and growing) thread at MacRumors, the iPhone 4's reception issue can be fixed by adjusting or even trimming the micro SIM so the contacts don't touch the metal tray. The popular belief is that touching the side of the phone somehow shorts across the micro SIM, causing (mumble mumble) and leading to dropped signal. Making things more interesting, Apple and AT&T are apparently using several different types of micro SIMs, including one with a significantly larger contact area -- you can check a shot of two of our iPhone 4 micro SIMs side-by-side after the break.

Kristen Stewart on The Late Show: Awkward Alert!!!

Prior to her appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman last night, Kristen Stewart showed off a shorter, dyed hairstyle. Sound off with your thoughts on it NOW.

From there, the Eclipse star proceeded to sit alongside the talk show host... and make things incredibly awkward for all that watched.

We adore Kristen, don't get us wrong. But at some point her shyness stops being endearing and starts just being strange.

This is an actress that's been on the global stage for years now, not some scientist locked in her lab 24/7, yet her stories still trail off and she can't seem to banter at all with the person interviewing her.

Near the end of the following four minutes of interviewing Hell, Letterman even has to comfort Stewart, assuring her "you're fine, it's fine."

Larry King Ending His Show After 25 Years

After 25 years on the air, Larry King says it's time "to hang up my nightly suspenders."

The talk show, 67, host said Tuesday he'll end his run on Larry King Live in the fall but will remain with CNN for occasional specials, "giving me more time for my wife and I to get to the kids' little league games."

"With this chapter closing I'm looking forward to the future and what my next chapter will bring," says King.

A replacement for King's 9 p.m. ET slot will be made "in the weeks ahead," according to CNN.

"Larry King defined the art of the television interview," CNN says in a statement. "His candor, curiosity and compassion are legendary, and his ability to interview people from all walks of life – world leaders, celebrities and everyday people – has made him an icon."

King is stepping down during what he's called a "difficult time" in his marriage to Shawn Southwick King, 50.

Sneak Peek: Katie Holmes as First Lady Jackie Kennedy!

It's one trendsetter channeling another!

The first snaps of fashionista Katie Holmes starring as Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy in the History Channel miniseries The Kennedys are out, and we have to admit that the actress, dressed in full costume, does a pretty damn good imitation of the real thing.

In a bouffant 'do, blue shift dress, classic pearls and a faux baby bump, Katie's copied the late first lady and fashion icon's style perfectly!

So what do you think: Is Tom's better half pulling this off? And are you excited to see the miniseries? Weigh in below!

Verizon Droid Incredible ->Droid X exchange confirmed for July 15th. Incredible won’t be phased out

I’m a bit tired reporting about Verizon Droid Incredible delivery delays by now. The next post I want to publish about it, would be “Droid Incredible shortages resolved”.

Alas, I don’t expect such good news until HTC gets those replacement SLCD displays from Sony.

But, I do have one bit bit of good news for Droid fans, who preordered HTC Incredible, with delivery date past mid-July. You will be able to exchange Incredible for Droid X, as soon as it is available on Verizon, on July 15th.

Here’s what Verizon had to say to us about the topic:
“The Droid Incredible by HTC, as you know, definitely lives up to its
name and is a fantastic device. It has proven to be very, very
popular with our customers. Should a customer who has ordered a Droid
Incredible decide that the Droid X (or any other device) better meets
his/her needs, he/she can take advantage of the Verizon Wireless Worry
Free Guarantee and choose the Droid X when it goes on sale July 15.
Customers cannot pre-order the Droid X with us.”

Leaked: Apple’s internal iPhone 4 antenna troubleshooting procedures

The antenna issues plaguing the iPhone 4 have infuriated many iPhone users (and rightfully so), but have you ever wondered how Apple is training its employees to deal with the fiasco? Well thanks to one of our Apple connects, we now know the exact procedures AppleCare reps must follow when dealing with any reception complaints regarding the iPhone 4. Hit the jump to check them out.

1. Keep all of the positioning statements in the BN handy – your tone when delivering this information is important.

a. The iPhone 4’s wireless performance is the best we have ever shipped. Our testing shows that iPhone 4’s overall antenna performance is better than iPhone 3GS.

b. Gripping almost any mobile phone in certain places will reduce its reception. This is true of the iPhone 4, the iPhone 3GS, and many other phones we have tested. It is a fact of life in the wireless world.

c. If you are experiencing this on your iPhone 3GS, avoid covering the bottom-right side with your hand.

d. If you are experiencing this on your iPhone 4, avoid covering the black strip in the lower-left corner of the metal band.

e. The use of a case or Bumper that is made out of rubber or plastic may improve wireless performance by keeping your hand from directly covering these areas.

2. Do not perform warranty service. Use the positioning above for any customer questions or concerns.

Complaints over JJ Lin's GMA loss turn into a big mess

It wasn't too long ago when we reported about speculations over JJ Lin’s Golden Melody Awards nomination in May. As we all know by now, JJ Lin didn’t win Best Mandarin Male Singer, but the story is far from over.

Shortly after the GMA’s on Saturday, the CEO of Ocean Butterflies Music, Eric Lin, openly complained about his pupil being robbed of the award. He claimed, “JJ Lin received over 10 votes in the first round, but didn’t even get 5 in the end (referring to the 2nd and final round of voting). (He) was made to lose on purpose.”

However, the head of the GMA judging panel, Johnny Yin (殷正洋), revealed a different story, “Due to his relationship with JJ Lin, Eric Lin did not participate in the voting process. We did not discuss about anyone in particular during our vote. I think he should have confirm, discuss and understand the real situation before speaking. Using assumptions is very inappropriate.”

TVXQ’s JaeChunSu in Los Angeles to record new album

An unidentified official confirmed that Jaejoong, Yoochun and Junsu (JaeChunSu or JYJ) are currently in Los Angeles, California to record their new album. The trio was seen arriving at LAX airport on June 26th.

We previously reported that the trio was scheduled to work with Kanye West and Timbaland and with the trio in Los Angeles, it seems like the collaboration is underway. The new album will be produced by Kim Hyun Suk.

The album is slated for release some time in August and with the album geared towards Asia, there could be tracks in both Korean and Japanese. The album is supposed to be released under a famous international record label but no further information was given.

Firefox 4 Pre-Beta Candidate Brings Tabs on Top and Other Changes to the 'Fox

Windows/Mac/Linux: The first pre-beta build of Firefox 4 hit servers today, bringing several changes to the veteran browser, including a new tabs-on-top interface, a refreshed overall look, and consolidated menus.

The update's still rough around the edges, and as a pre-beta, it's a very early-adopter download only. But if you're eager to play with the bleeding edge of Firefox, you can download the release (Mozilla appropriately names their nightlies "Minefield") here. (Look for the appropriate download for your platform with a name like firefox-4.0b2pre.en-US.)

Cisco's Android Tablet Wants to Be the iPad For Suits

The iPad is a content-driven machine. That's what it does best, and that's what it's used for. The Cisco Cius, on the other hand, wants to be the consummate professional's tablet. But what's a business-minded tablet do differently?

Cisco seems to be hanging its hat on HD videoconferencing, in particular, with a front-facing camera that allows 30fps of 720p video in addition to a rear-facing 5MP camera. The Cius is also a briefcase-friendly 1.15lbs, and runs Android (though it's not clear what iteration).

Also unclear are pricing (though it should be under $1000) and general availability (sometime in the first three months of 2011). But there's clearly room for tablets in the enterprise space, especially since videoconferencing has always seemed best-suited to business meetings anyway.

YouTube Weighs In On Flash vs HTML5 Video

Between the iPad’s blocking of Flash earlier this year and the huge wave of ad campaigns, open letters, and debates that followed, it seems that everyone has an opinion on the merits (or lack thereof) of Flash on the modern web. Today, YouTube software engineer John Harding took to the site’s official blog to weigh on the current status of HTML5 video support. The gist of it: while HTML5 is great, it can’t do everything YouTube (or most mainstream video sites) need.

Harding explains his thesis point by point, beginning with the need for a standard video format for HTML5. Politics, codec quality, and patent disputes have kept HTML5 from adopting a single standard for video content (H.264, the industry standard, has licensing issues). Google hopes to remedy this with the WebM project and VP8, which were unveiled last month. But VP8 is still a long way from becoming the industry standard.

Next, Harding spells out issues with video streaming — namely, the fact that HTML5 doesn’t really have anything that matches Flash when it comes to dynamically adjusting quality control and buffering. There’s also the fact that HTML5 can’t offer protect copyrighted content from being copied (Flash can through RTMPE). And there isn’t a way to take an HTML5 video and embed it on another site, at least not the way YouTube does with annotations and other associated data. Other issues include the inability to play HTML5 full-screen, and no standard for Camera and Microphone access from the browser.

Hulu Plus announced with support for iPad, iPhone, PS3, Xbox Live, and more

We've just received word that the premium Hulu service we've heard chatter about for a while now has just become official. Dubbed Hulu Plus, the $10 / month service will feature entire seasons of shows that are available in limited quantities on the free service, as well as other programming not available via Hulu on the web. There will be iPod and iPad apps available (streaming with WiFi or 3G), along with support for Samsung connected TVs and Blu-ray (via Samsung Apps). Also in the works is support for TVs and Blu-ray players from both Vizio and Sony (fall 2010), PS3 (July) , and Xbox 360 (as part of a "custom experience" in Xbox Live Gold, early 2011). Hit up the source link to get in on the "invitation only" preview of the service, and to keep abreast of availability for your favorite hardware. Video after the break.

Samsung's American Galaxy S phones pose for family portrait

Samsung's US team held a swanky event in NYC this evening to launch all four of its new US-spec Galaxy S phones in style. If you haven't been brought up to speed on Samsung's stateside Android invasion, the Captivate is headed to AT&T, the Fascinate to Verizon, the Epic 4G to Sprint and the Vibrant to T-Mobile. Each of the phones have 4-inch Super AMOLED screens, 1GHz Hummingbird Cortex A8 CPUs, and cams that can capture 720p video. We've already got detailed hands on impressions of the Captivate and Epic 4G, but stay tuned for Fascinate and Vibrant previews tonight.

Katy Perry Topless Esquire UK Magazine August 2010

Katy Perry sports a bikini top that shoots whip cream in the new video for her summer anthem “California Gurls,” but the engaged singer appears to have misplaced it on the pages of the August issue of Esquire UK.

The singer sizzles in little more than sequined shoes and open-toe stilettos.

Megan Fox Marries Brian Austin Green in Hawaii

It took two engagements, but Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green finally made it legal.

Reports the couple were married at the Four Seasons Hotel resort last weekend while vacationing on the big island of Hawaii were confirmed to PEOPLE early Tuesday. "Yes they are married," a rep for Fox says.

Fox, 24, and Green, 36, who met in 2004, initially got engaged in November 2006, only to call it off in February 2009. At the time, a source said the decision was "mutual."

Video Clearly Shows Antenna Defect on iPhone 4 Web Browser

The iPhone 4's antenna problem continues. People around the world keep experiencing it. So many that a class action suit is already in the works. This video proves that a simple touch affects web page loading, stopping it completely.

As you can clearly see here, this problem is not just about the iPhone 4 not displaying full bars, but it's about real data loss. It's pretty simple: Leaving the phone on the table loads the web page at full speed. Touching the problematic area, pauses the loading of the web page.

Browser Speed Tests: Safari 5, Firefox 3.6, Chrome 6, and Opera 10.6 Beta

Apple's stepped up with Safari 5, Firefox has brought forth a more crash-proof 3.6, and Opera's continuing to push forward in betas. Let's break out the timer and testing software to see how the latest browsers run on real hardware.

We're using much the same testing methods as we did with our last performance tests. If you're not familiar with our series, we use this editor's eyes and fingers (and Rob Keir's timer app) to time the loading of browsers from first boot-up ("cold"), after already running once ("warm"), and in opening multiple tabs at once—in this case, nine. For JavaScript and DOM/CSS scripting tests, we use Mozilla's Dromaeo suite, which incorporates tests from Google's V8 series, Apple's SunSpider tests, and other independent markers.

Taylor Lautner on Swapping Spit with Robert Pattinson

The real danger on the set of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse didn't involve vampires or werewolves. It was all the flying saliva.

"We're always like an inch away from each other's faces, screaming at each other, spitting at each other in the face. It gets a little awkward," Taylor Lautner told PEOPLE of costar Robert Pattinson at Monday's Cinema Society and Piaget-hosted screening of their latest Twilight film in New York.

Did Pattinson have to duck any major projectiles? "Not anything super dramatic," Lautner says, "but I'm sure he caught a couple splats."

Shouting at each other doesn't come naturally for two guys who don't, in real life, despise each other. And so, the scenes often veer into laughter. "Rob and I ruin a lot of takes," Lautner admits. "It's hard to keep a straight face, because we actually like each other. So, it's pretty funny."

With Pattinson filming Water for Elephants, Lautner, 18, was joined at the screening by costar Kristen Stewart, 20. Both actors said they've been enjoying some relatively quiet time recently.

iPhone 4 goes on sale at AT&T stores

Lines formed early at AT&T stores here as the iPhone 4 went on sale, and stores quickly sold out of stock.

Customers started lining up as early as 5 a.m. EDT in front of the AT&T store on 95th Street and Broadway on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. By 7:20 a.m. the store was out of the 32GB phone. And by 7:30 a.m. store representatives said they would not have enough 16GB phones to make it through the 60 or so people left in line, which snaked down the block.

Potential buyers were given the option to wait in line to sign up for an iPhone 4, and come back later in the day to pick it up after the store receives more shipments. Sales representatives said they weren't allowed to say how many phones the store received prior to the launch or how many they'd be getting in on Tuesday.

China Swings, Google Flinches

Back in January, with big balls, Google wrote the following:

We have decided we are no longer willing to continue censoring our results on Google.cn, and so over the next few weeks we will be discussing with the Chinese government the basis on which we could operate an unfiltered search engine within the law, if at all. We recognize that this may well mean having to shut down Google.cn, and potentially our offices in China.

In March, Google backed that talk up by redirecting google.cn to google.com.hk, writing the following:

Figuring out how to make good on our promise to stop censoring search on Google.cn has been hard. We want as many people in the world as possible to have access to our services, including users in mainland China, yet the Chinese government has been crystal clear throughout our discussions that self-censorship is a non-negotiable legal requirement. We believe this new approach of providing uncensored search in simplified Chinese from Google.com.hk is a sensible solution to the challenges we’ve faced—it’s entirely legal and will meaningfully increase access to information for people in China. We very much hope that the Chinese government respects our decision, though we are well aware that it could at any time block access to our services. We will therefore be carefully monitoring access issues, and have created this new web page, which we will update regularly each day, so that everyone can see which Google services are available in China.

iPhone 4 overheating: is your Apple handset toasty?

Back in the aftermath of the iPad launch, various users taking their new tablets out into the wild found the Apple slate could be quite cautious about overheating in the sun. Now we’re wondering if the same thing could be happening with the iPhone 4; HardMac found their iPhone 4’s thermal protection – which basically locks you out of the phone until it decides it has cooled sufficiently – kicked in when the handset was in an otherwise cool room.

Apple’s own technical guidelines suggest iPhone 4 users are good up to around 35-degrees centigrade; HardMac say the room their handset was in was only at 25-degrees. The phone wasn’t being charged and hadn’t been actively used for at least an hour. Cold to the touch, it nonetheless required a full reboot in order to become functional again.

Now, this could be an isolated incident and nothing more, but we’re also wondering about cooling for that speedy 1GHz Apple A4 processor (the same chip in the iPhone 4 as it is in the iPad). Anyone else seen overheating errors on their new iPhone 4?

Cheryl Yang and Ming Dao get ready for new drama

Cheryl Yang and Ming Dao filmed the ending theme for their upcoming SETTV drama Zhong Wu Yan (鍾無艷) on the 28th. In contrast to the birthmark on Cheryl Yang’s character, Ming Dao revealed that he actually had a real birth defect of his own.

As a child, he suffered from ligament and muscle problems that forbade him from walking properly. The young Ming Dao wore leg braces as a result but never felt discriminated. After rehabilitation and nightly massages by his dad, he eventually recovered and went on to participate in track races.

The actor said everyone has imperfections, but they should be dealt with under a positive mindset. He remembers the time when he attended kindergarten, the principal would carry him and feed him, even making other students envious. Cheryl Yang added, “The imperfections of a person might be unique in someone else’s eyes. One’s body, hair and skin belong to their parents. They are also a gift from the greater power.”

Former Facebook CTO: ‘Google Me’ Is Real, And It’s Gunning For Facebook

Yesterday, Digg CEO Kevin Rose tweeted that he’d heard a “huge rumor” that Google was planning to launch a Facebook competitor called “Google Me”, sparking off a wave of speculative reports (Rose has since removed the tweet). Now Adam D’Angelo, who was Facebook’s CTO for years and is now founder of hot Q&A service Quora, is weighing in with more details. And from what he’s hearing, Google Me is indeed very real, and it’s gunning for Facebook.

D’Angelo shared his thoughts as an answer to one of the questions on Quora. Here’s his response:

Here is what I’ve pieced together from some reliable sources:

This is not a rumor. This is a real project. There are a large number of people working on it. I am completely confident about this.
They realized that Buzz wasn’t enough and that they need to build out a full, first-class social network. They are modeling it off of Facebook.
Unlike previous attempts (before Buzz at least), this is a high-priority project within Google.
They had assumed that Facebook’s growth would slow as it grew, and that Facebook wouldn’t be able to have too much leverage over them, but then it just didn’t stop, and now they are really scared.

HTC: expect Desire, Legend and Wildfire to get Froyo 'beginning in Q3'

It's summer. It's hot. Naturally, everyone wants to lick some frozen dessert in one form or another. Shortly after the Nexus One got its absolutely official Android 2.2 update, HTC has once again leaped out to tell us of its own Froyo offering. The Taiwanese mobile giant has informed Recombu that it's expecting "several of our 2010 models including Desire, Legend and Wildfire" to join Google's latest green bot party "beginning in Q3." We went to the trouble of confirming this with HTC ourselves, and while this isn't really much of an update from the company's previous statement in terms of time frame, here's hoping that at least some of its customers will get the delivery before the summer fiesta ends.

Is the iPhone 4 having proximity sensor troubles?

Time to add another complaint about the iPhone 4 to the list? Over at Apple’s support forums there are a significant number of complaints about the smartphone’s proximity sensor, which is generally used to shut off the iPhone 4’s display whenever you’re holding it against your face. According to various owners, the sensor isn’t consistently recognizing proximity and thus randomly activating the touchscreen mid-call; that’s leading to calls being accidentally muted or ended, or second calls initiated.

Some are finding that the proximity sensor works if completely covered with a finger, but not when used normally; that could suggest that the settings are at fault rather than the hardware itself. If so, Apple might be able to address the dicky sensor with a firmware tweak, rather than having to physically change units.

This new issue joins complaints over poor reception, which Apple has acknowledged is due to the external antenna design for the new iPhone 4. The company maintains that either modifying the way you hold the smartphone, or using a case such as its own Bumper, addresses the problem; however at least one law firm is considering putting together a class action suit to represent disappointed owners.
