Brits 2010: Girl power as Lily Allen, Pixie Lott, Florence and the Machine and Lady Gaga go head to head

They are so often dominated by macho rock ’n’ roll stars. But the Brit Awards this year promise to be a much more girlie affair.

In the nominations, announced on Monday, Lily Allen, Pixie Lott, Florence and the Machine and America’s Lady Gaga are leading the way with three nods each.

Miss Allen is nominated for Best British Female Solo Artist, Best British Single for The Fear and Best British Album for It’s Not Me, It’s You.

The 24-year-old has already announced her plans to retreat from the industry and set up home in the Cotswolds with building manager Sam Cooper.

Windows Mobile 7 megarumor: LG Apollo and HTC Obsession running flagship '720p' specs, Zune Phone Experience

Alright, this is some wild, heavy stuff, but the folks at WMExperts have compiled what they believe to be true about Windows Mobile 7, including a whole bunch of previously undisclosed info and even a couple of flagship phones. We can't vouch for the rumors, but there's a ring of truth to plenty of it, and most of the rest of it we want to be true. First off, Microsoft is approaching the revision with two flavors: Windows Phone Seven Business Edition, and Windows Phone Seven Media Edition. The former is a stripped down OS that will allow OEM overlays like HTC's Sense UI, and includes lower minimum specs -- though a WVGA "minimum" is nothing to get angry about. Meanwhile, it sounds like the Media Edition is the quasi-"Zune Phone" we've been dreaming of, with a heavy emphasis on HD media playback and capture, along with social networking activities like Xbox Live, Facebook and Twitter. Other features include cloud-style services on the Business Edition side for live manipulation of stored data, a long with a location-aware platform dubbed "Orion."

HarperCollins negotiations to provide ebooks for Apple’s Tablet; Graphical Capabilities For Gaming

According to the Wall Street Journal, book publisher HarperCollins is in serious talks with Apple about a ebook deal for Apple’s heavily rumored yet still unconfirmed tablet that’s anticipated to be announced at the January 27th Apple press event.

Chief executive of HarperCollins Brian Murray stated that e-books enhanced with extra media content such as video, author interviews, and social-networking applications could make a play for higher retail prices for publishers than current ebooks, something that ebook-providing companies, especially Amazon would have to start worrying about.

Wedding pictures from Ming Dao and Joe Chen

No, they are not getting married! The lovely couple from dramas like Prince turns to Frog and Ying Ye 3 Jia 1 collaborated on a photo shoot for a wedding photography company in China. Ming Dao showed no bad feelings towards his former on-screen partner after their departure from the management company J-Star. He even recommend Joe Chen/Chen Qiao En to be "his bride" for the ad campaign, re-assuring that they are "not disbanding despite going their separate ways" and complimented that his "old love is still the most beautiful."

Ming Dao has long been a popular choice for wedding photos since his days as a little-known model over 10 years ago. He said proudly, "When I was young, I was the prince of wedding, because the deep contours of my facial features, lots of companies loved hiring me for their wedding pictures." Ming Dao only got paid 10K for a full day of work back then, but don't feel bad for him, his paycheck has risen over 1500 times nowadays.

Windows Mobile 7 Rumor Explosion: Two Versions, New Name, First Hardware

As Mobile World Congress—and presumably Window Mobile 7—careens closer and closer, we're going to hear a lot more of this. Today's batch? Business and consumer versions of the OS, a sexxxy new name, and possible first hardware.

WMExperts' post is essentially a digest of everything they think they know from a variety of sources, including this very site. Even as a summary, though, it's pretty huge, and the rumors sprawl from totally ridiculous to fairly credible, so here are the meaty bits:

• Windows Mobile 7 won't be marketed as Windows Mobile 7. We sort of knew this already, since Microsoft has been marketing Windows Mobile and "Windows Phone" since the announcement of 6.5. But it's not even going to be that, apparently. The new name? "Seven."

SANDRA BULLOCK HAD A BLACK OUT AT GOLDEN GLOBES!

SANDRA Bullock has revealed how she blacked out at Sunday night’s Golden Globes.

The star — who won the Lead Actress In A Drama award for her role in The Blind Side, in which she plays a conservative housewife who takes in a destitute football prodigy — says she doesn’t remember her name being announced as a winner.

“I want to go find the family and just recount. I have no idea what happened, no idea,” Sandra said.

“I feel like I blacked out.”

Bullock recently credited her nude scene in summer (2009) movie The Proposal for getting her career back on track.

“It’s all happened for me since then,” she said earlier this month. “That took a lot of guts to do but it was worth it in the end.

“I think nudity had a great deal to do with that success. If I had known that, I would have done it a long time ago!”

Google Sends Right Message to China’s Police State: David Pauly

Jan. 19 (Bloomberg) -- Here’s hoping Google Inc. makes good on its threat to quit China.

It’s time someone in the U.S. stopped coddling the Chinese police state. The American government can’t, or won’t.

Though Google is late coming around as an advocate of free speech in China, it still deserves applause. The company said last week it would stop censoring its Chinese search engine, Google.cn, as the communist government dictates -- and might even close the business.

Google got religion after discovering that last month hackers -- read Chinese government technicians -- tried to access accounts of, and managed to steal information from, human-rights activists who used Google e-mail.

Hackers went after at least 20 other companies’ computers, Google said. Adobe Systems Inc., the leading maker of graphics design software; Juniper Networks Inc., the second-biggest maker of computer networking gear; and Rackspace Hosting Inc., which manages Web sites, said they also had been attacked.

iPhone OS 4.0, Apple Tablet and iLife 2010 to be announced on January 27?

Today Apple announced an event that will take place on January 27 in San Francisco, where the Cupertino-based manufacturer will showcase its “latest creation”.

The company doesn’t give us more details, but one of the products that could be announced is the long-rumored Apple Tablet (possibly called iSlate).

In fact, FoxNews has it that an inside source says the event “would likely” focus not only on the Apple Tablet, but also on a brand new iPhone OS 4.0, as well as on iLife 2010 (new version of Apple’s suite of software apps for managing, editing, and publishing photos, music and videos).

2PM’s Chansung is featured in 2AM’s mini-album!

2PM has been showing a lot of brotherly love to 2AM lately for their upcoming album, but it looks like there is more support to give! It has been revealed that 2PM’s Chansung is featured in To Her (그녀에게), one of the tracks from 2AM’s upcoming mini-album.

On the 18th, a video of 2AM and Chansung was revealed, wherein Chansung met with the ballad quartet in the recording to record his part of the song. In the video, Jo Kwon asked Chansung, “How’s the music?“, to which the latter replied, “Totally manly. I was really surprised.” Then Jo Kwon commented, “Now, we are now beastly idols too,” prompting the curiosity of fans who are wondering how “beastly” 2AM will become in their comeback album.

Tiger Woods Is in Sex Rehab, Claims New York Times Writer

A writer published in the New York Times Magazine reveals that Tiger Woods is currently a patient at Gentle Path -- a sex addiction program at Pine Grove, a treatment center in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Benoit Denizet-Lewis, who has written extensively about his own sex addiction, wrote on his personal blog Monday that a source confirmed Woods' stay at the clinic. Denizet-Lewis, who interviewed staff and patients at the center for his book America Anonymous: Eight Addicts in Search of a Life, notes that Gentle Path's program "is directed by Patrick Carnes, one of the world's leading experts on sex addiction." The treatment center would not confirm the identity of any of its patients.

The official website for Pine Grove says that the Gentle Path program is "for those suffering from sexual addiction, relationship addiction and sexual anorexia."

Denizet-Lewis speculates that Woods, 34, may have begun his sex addiction treatment elsewhere -- such as the Meadows treatment center in Arizona, where the golfer had allegedly also been spotted.

The reporter explains that the usual regimen at sex addiction centers nationwide includes group therapy sessions as well as family and couple's therapy. "If Tiger and his wife, Elin, are serious about repairing their marriage," he writes, "she will be spending some time in Hattiesburg with Tiger." Another typical requirement: patients must sign a "celibacy contract" -- a promise "not to have sex with anyone, or to masturbate, while in treatment," Denizet-Lewis explains.

HTC Supersonic to hit Sprint with WiMAX on board?

A few weeks ago, we saw the HTC A9292 makes its debut on a leaked Sprint inventory list. Dubbed a WiMAX candybar, the A9292 is rumored to be the HTC Supersonic, an Android-powered beast with specs worthy of its codename. The Supersonic was tipped to include a 4.3-inch LCD display, Android 2.1 with Sense UI, WiMAX connectivity, a kickstand on the back like the Verizon Wireless Imagio, and, though Snapdragon is not confirmed, it is reportedly Snapdragon fast. The Supersonic’s software is reportedly still buggy so a launch date is assumed to be a little ways off. Though it’s a time frame that fits nicely with Clear’s projected 2H 2010 launch window for the first 4G-enabled smartphones to hit.

Android usage up 200% over last 3 months

Android hasn’t exactly been the hottest thing around these years – that is, until now. According to statistics from a ChangeWave research report, usage and overall consumer outlook towards Google’s mobile operating system has soared over the last few months. As of December 2009, the research firm’s survey shows that 4% of all smartphone owners now use Google’s Android OS. That’s an increase of 200% since the previous survey released in September.

ChangeWave’s December 9-14 survey of over 4,000 consumers reveals the Android operating system churning up the smartphone market, with Motorola’s new Droid the leading recipient of this attention (quickly being chased after by the Nexus One). Furthermore, 21% of those planning a smartphone purchase in the next 90 days say they’d prefer to buy a phone with the Android OS – a massive 15% leap from the 6% of just three months ago in September.

Rumored HTC tablet project both confirmed and suspended in one fell swoop

Remember those rumored HTC Android / Chrome OS touch tablets that were supposedly being shown behind the scenes at CES? In a brief statement given to Australia's Channel News, Sales and Marketing Director Anthony Petts not only confirms the existence of the aforementioned project, he also announces in the same breath -- way to be efficient, guys -- that the slate are on hold as the company is now "focusing their efforts on a new generation of mobile phones." He's not saying never, but don't get your hopes up for the near future. At any rate, if a 4.3-inch device like the HTC HD2 is still considered a phone by its standards, we can be happy with that -- maybe they can try five on for size while they're at it.

Big ratings for Autumn's Concerto courtesy of half-naked VanNess Wu

As reported earlier, Van Ness Wu showed plenty of skin on last Sunday's episode and the move has certainly paid off. Autumn's Concerto brought in an average rating of 7.15%, leading some Netizens to suggest that the show should be renamed "Next Stop, Pectoral Muscle" instead of its current Chinese title "Next Stop, Happiness". Although it didn't reach the series-high rating of 7.76% two episodes ago when the main character regained his memory, it was still a pretty impressive showing as the drama goes into its last phrase. The episode was off to a great start with a heart-felt speech from the supporting character Hua Tuo-Ye played by Chris Wu. Lead actress Ady An backed up the show with consistently good acting , as her character struggles to find balance between her new life and a hostile relationship with her ex-lover/new husband.

Joey Wins 7 Awards To Break Record

Due to the disagreement over royalty fees between TVB and the four music companies from HKRIA, TVB shut out the four music companies at its annual music award ceremony, leading to the affected singers not winning any awards. In recent days, TVB has been getting a headache at trying to come up with the award winners list, and the results show that EEG became the big winner on the night with 19 awards. Joey Yung won seven awards on the night, which included the ‘Asia Most Popular Hong Kong Female Singer’ award, ‘Golden Song Gold Award’, ‘Most Popular Commercial Song’ award, ‘Most Popular Mandarin Song’ silver award, ‘Most Popular Cover Version Song’ silver award, and she also won a top 10 song award for ‘In Search of the Deity’ and ‘Deeply Moving’. This breaks the previous record of winning 5 awards at one award ceremony, set by Alan Tam and Joey, which makes Joey the singer who has won the most TVB music awards in history, and she now looks likely to win the four-station media award. As for Leo Ku, he won the ‘Most Popular Male Singer’ award for the second time in a row, but what actually happened was that TVB rearranged some of the award winners before the show, and Joey was negatively-affected.

Yesterday, this newspaper made public the fact that TVB’s ‘adopted son’, Hacken Lee, was going to be one of the ‘survivors’ of the royalty fee dispute and he was set to win the ‘Asia Most Popular Hong Kong Male Singer’ award. However, just before the award ceremony started, one of the TVB management stated that if a singer doesn’t attend the award ceremony, he or she will not win an award, and Hacken was in China yesterday to hold a concert. Furthermore, because TVB didn’t want any of the four main music company singers to win an award, TVB’s ‘adopted son’ lost to TVB’s ‘biological son’, Raymond Lam, who was awarded the ‘Asia Most Popular Hong Kong Male Singer’ award instead. To avoid making it look as though EEG was winning all the awards, the ‘Most Popular Female Singer’ award from given to Miriam Yeung instead of Joey, and Joey was recompensed by being awarded two top 10 song awards.

Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler Dating? Globes Chemistry Has People Talking

Ever since Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler filmed their upcoming movie 'The Bounty Hunter,' rumors have flown that the pair have engaged in a little romance on the side.

Although both denied reports, when the A-list actors took the stage at the Golden Globes together, their awkward body language sparked a few questions.

Aniston and Butler presented the award for Best Screenplay -- which, incidentally, went to 'Up in the Air' -- with little banter or fanfare, making us believe that there is something going on between them two of them.

"It's an honor for us to present this award together," Butler began. "Yep, it is," Aniston responded. Check It Out

Mozilla releases second Firefox release candidate

Mozilla on Sunday released a second release candidate of Firefox 3.6, a modest upgrade that embodies Mozilla's effort to increase the frequency the open-source browser is developed.

Mike Beltzner, president of Firefox, announced second Firefox 3.6 release candidate Sunday but didn't share details. The release notes were equally mum, but the update process called the new software a "security and stability update."

The software is available from Mozilla's download site. More than 1 million people are testing Firefox 3.6 at present, and more than 300 million overall use Firefox, Mozilla said.

The new version includes Personas to let people customize the browser's appearance; blocks third-party software from encroaching on its file system turf to increase stability; and--perhaps most significantly given the competitive threat from Google Chrome--shortens start-up time and improves responsiveness and JavaScript performance.

Motorola’s MOTOROI (XT720) with Android gets official in Korea

The Motorola XT720 – seen not long ago – has just been announced in South Korea under the official (and weird) name of MOTOROI.

As mentioned before, the MOTOROI XT720 is South Korea’s first Android smartphone. It’s targeted at “people who want the ultimate smart phone experience” and it should be available via SKT starting early February.

Running Android 2.0, MOTOROI XT720 is, basically, an upgraded version of the China-bound Motorola XT701.

Raymond Lam admits he is qualified for award; TVB Executives said results are deserved

TVB and HKRIA's copyright disputes still have not been settled yet, last night the singers under the Big 4 record companies all ate the "white fruit" together at the "JSG Best Ten Music Awards 2009". EEG was the big winner of the night getting 19 awards total, while TVB "biological son" Raymond Lam leaped becoming the new "Asia-Pacific Most Popular HK Male Singer", which was the most controversial scene. When he accepted the award, boos were heard among the audience. It was said that other record companies who won less awards were dissatisfied with result. But, Raymond said that at the time he was so shocked that he couldn't hear the boos. Having the self-confidence, large number of fans, he is qualified for the award. TVB Executive expressed in support that all the winners deserved their awards.

Even before the award ceremony, TVB announced that even if the Big 4 singers do not attend the ceremony, if they receive an award it will still be presented to them, however that was not true in reality. TVB senior manager of arts and music (Chan Ka Yeung) insisted that the Big 4 singers did not have any awards and that the results had nothing to do with their absence! (Does Eason Chan not deserve an award?) He said: "The votes were like that, so no award! (How are the votes counted?) The results are based on the viewers, general assembly's review and the music department." Towards the rumors that the other record companies with less awards were in dissatisfaction of the results and that the "Asia-Pacific Male Singer" award should have gone to Hacken Lee? Mr. Chan denied: "Dissatisfaction? Which record company? And how did this rumor start!"

SM Entertainment said over the phone on 18th January, “Our responses to the cartoon author and legal actions have been late due to investigations. With that we will follow up with legal actions.”

The artiste of the cartoon is webtoon writer Yoon SeoIn. He recently posted a cartoon titled ‘Joy Ride #592 Lady Generation Past Photos’ on a portal site on 2nd January.

HP brings out TouchSmart tm2 tablet, upgrades dv6t and dv7t with Core i5

And now, for the hopelessly devoted HP homeboy, we present a trio of lust items. The new hotness on the converitble tablet front -- the TouchSmart tm2 -- is ready for shipping in exchange for nearly $950, and will endow your life with a 12-inch capacitive multitouch display, a somewhat senescent SU7300 1.3GHz ULV processor, and 3GB of DDR3 memory. Should you dare to stray into higher price ranges, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4550 discrete graphics and an SU9600 CPU are also available. Alternatively, you can splash $929 on the 15.6-inch dv6t, which now comes with a 2.4GHz Core i5-520M as standard, as well as free upgrades to 3GB of RAM and 320GB in storage. Graphics options here range up to an NVIDIA GeForce GT 320M with 1GB of onboard memory. Finally, the dv7t matches its smaller sibling's upgrades but asks for $999 for the base spec, which includes a 17.3-inch display with a 1600 x 900 resolution. So there you have it, something for pretty much everyone.

Best & Worst of the Globes: "Actors, They're Just Better Than Ordinary People"

On a rainy night in Hollywood, the stars and their umbrella-holding minions braved the precipitation, which threatened hairdos, dresses and, jeez, the entire evening of entertainment kudos. But the 67th Golden Globes got going anyway.

Here's what was good...and not so good:

Best Cold Opening: Ricky Gervais started off a little slow with his by-now-regular tweaking of Steve Carell, but then he moved on to a new round of targets, the assembled stars, and the show started rolling. Here were some of our favorite opening quips:

Paid New York Times Content Plan Could Coincide with Apple Tablet Announcement

The New York Times experimented with paid content before, without much success, but that's not stopping them from giving it a go again. This time, however, the paid-to-free content changeover might coincide with a certain unconfirmed mystery tablet.

The NYT announcement is expected to arrive in the "coming weeks," which puts it smack dab in the middle of Apple's mystery product press conference, slated for January 27. Convenient!

According to New York magazine, the paid content model could also arrive hand-in-hand with an Apple partnership or distribution deal.

It's all just industry rumor and buzz for now, of course, but the part about a media partnership rings true considering all the Apple meetings and news we heard on that front in 2009.

Touchscreen Apple iMac In New 22-inch Size Rumored

A brief report on the often ill-informed Digitimes quotes the Chinese Commercial Times paper as suggesting Apple may be readying a 22-inch touchscreen iMac.

This has largely come about thanks to rumors originating from Quanta and Sinket Photronic, the latter of which will be supposedly supplying Apple with the touchscreen displays. If this rumor bears any fruit, it's bad news to anyone who splashed out on a Troll Touch touchscreen iMac.

Cheryl Yang plans to reconcile with her abusive father

Taiwanese actress Cheryl Yang has decided to reconcile with her once-abusive father after the Lunar New Year, ending a decade of estrangement and not speaking to each other.

Her father had grabbed her by her hair and knocked her head into the wall when she tried to protect her mother more than 10 years ago. The relationship between the duo soured after that incident and the 32-year-old refused to acknowledge him since, until he secretly visited her on set while she was filming the drama My Queen last year. The pair then started communicating with each other again.

With the recent passing of gal pal and singer Elva Hsiao's mother at the turn of 2010, Cheryl has began to understand the importance of appreciating her loved ones.

At a promotional event for a skincare product two days ago, she said with tears in her eyes, "After the Spring festival, I will be heading to Shanghai to film a show, and I will meet with my father."
