AGPS capability on various versions of the Galaxy S -- including the Captivate and Vibrant released here in the US -- has been deeply hosed since launch, the apparent result of a bunk positioning server being used to associate towers to geographical locations. In practical terms, that's made apps like Google Maps nearly useless indoors and in urban canyons where line of sight to the birds up in orbit is dicey or impossible, and for European users where the phone's been out even longer, the wait's been an especially excruciating one. Fortunately, Samsung's finally come out with some concrete details on Twitter today, saying that updates are expected next month with "details and download to follow." No word for Euros specifically, but we imagine (er, make that "hope") they'll all be fixed around the same time.

Nearly three years ago, we reported that top Korean actor Jang Dong Gun would star opposite of American actress Kate Bosworth for a Hollywood movie titled Laundry Warrior. The movie’s title was changed to The Warrior’s Way last year and now a release date for the film has been released.
The release date is scheduled for December 2nd. According to IMDB, the plot states: “An Asian warrior assassin finds peace, contentment and perhaps love in a forgotten western town on the edge of the desert but is then faced with…?”
Some great news for Jang Dong Gun, can’t wait to watch the movie. Thanks to mindy for the tip and check out the trailer for the movie below.

When AT&T’s monopoly on the iPhone ends in the U.S., it is not going to be pretty. With increasing evidence that Verizon is preparing to offer the iPhone 4 early next year, many people are waiting before buying one or upgrading. Many of those are existing AT&T customers who want the same phone on a better network. According to a new survey by market research firm Morpace, 34 percent of AT&T iPhone owners are waiting for the iPhone to be available on another carrier before upgrading, and a full 47 percent of current AT&T iPhone owners say they would consider switching to Verizon. So almost half of AT&T customers surveyed are not completely satisfied with AT&T’s network.
Those aren’t just angry bloggers. Morpace surveyed 1,000 consumers, and 29 percent (across all carriers) said they are likely to buy a phone from Verizon. Of those, the majority (51 percent) are existing Verizon customers.
Even by mid-2010 standards, Verizon's original Droid still looks and feels thoroughly modern -- after all, it set a pretty high benchmark for the upper end of Android's product portfolio when it launched late last year, and Motorola has managed to keep it updated through two major revisions of the platform along the way (in fact, it's still just one of a very few devices running Froyo commercially at this point). That said, it's got a handful of minor design flaws, none of which are really showstoppers in and of themselves but add up to make the phone a little less enjoyable to use than it could've been.
That's where the Droid 2 comes in: a phone that's less of an all-new, blockbuster product like the Droid X or EVO 4G and more of a genuine "version 2.0" type of effort -- hence the name, we suppose -- targeting some specific pain points we all experienced with the first-generation device. And just because it doesn't have the beastly, in-your-face appeal of the Droid X doesn't mean Verizon isn't considering it an important device; quite the contrary, actually, rolling out a big new ad campaign and making it the first Droid model to be offered in an official R2-D2 version (and let's be real: you can never downplay the significance of a gadget with a good Star Wars angle).
To put it plainly: on the heels of the Droid, the Droid 2's got some big shoes to fill. Let's find out whether they've pulled it off.

Toy Story 3 is now the highest-grossing animated movie of all time, with $920 million in worldwide box office receipts. It just surpassed Shrek 2, the previous record-holder, which racked up $919 million worldwide in 2004. Domestically, Toy Story 3 should cross the $400 million mark this weekend, making it only the second Disney film to do so. The animated hit also now holds the title of Disney’s fourth-most successful film in the company’s history.
Disney announced today that the DVD release of Toy Story 3 is now set for Nov. 2. Expect it to break records in that arena as well.

His name: Christian Owens. His age: 16. He made his first million dollars in two years, "inspired by Apple's CEO Steve Jobs". This is how he did it.
The British teen—who lives in Corby, Northamptonshire—got his first computer age seven. Three years later he got a Mac and taught himself web design. Four years later—at age 14, in 2008—he started his first company. It was a simple site that some of you may know: Mac Bundle Box. The site was pretty, rooted into Apple's own design guidelines and style.

Following up on a story we posted this morning, Google has released a statement in response to the lawsuit filed by Oracle over the search giant’s implementation of Java in Android. The statement looks like this:
We are disappointed Oracle has chosen to attack both Google and the open-source Java community with this baseless lawsuit. The open-source Java community goes beyond any one corporation and works every day to make the web a better place. We will strongly defend open-source standards and will continue to work with the industry to develop the Android platform.
As reported by USA Today, Oracle is, “seeking an injunction and unspecified damages,” although the suit is most likely “part of a larger negotiating effort by Oracle to land a sizable licensing fee.” Oracle has yet to release an official statement defending the merits of the suit.

Google Voice actions is a “cool” new feature for Android (Froyo 2.2). With this new feature you are able to tell your phone what to do, with just your voice. How about some of these examples:
1) “send text to bob hey are you coming for lunch or what?”
2) “note to self don’t forget our anniversary”
3) “listen to bob marley”
4) “call the hot tub factory”
Pretty cool stuff — everything just works the way you would expect. Kind of. The feature is awesome, but after all is said and done, I think there may still be a few issues that need to be worked out before people can effectively make use of this.
The biggest problem with things like this is that people don’t know how to talk to computers yet. What do I mean by that? Well, if you look at a similar problem, searching the web, you will notice that talking to a search engine and your buddy across the cubicle wall is completely different.

Okay, so I haven’t yet seen Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, nor was I planning to between now and Sunday (because, honestly, I kind of loathe seeing movies on opening weekends, thanks to cell-phone talkers, savory-stew eaters, and youths). But I just got sent a link to this extremely cool limited-edition poster for the movie, which was created in conjunction with a special Scott Pilgrim screening last night at the Alamo Drafthouse theater in Austin, TX. The cinema-eatery (named the best theater in America by EW in 2005, incidentally) screened the movie as part of its Fantastic Fest, and commissioned artist Martin Ansin to whip up the image. And now I can’t stop staring at it: Ooh! The wake of the fighters’ swords magically form the titular hero’s initials! Whoa! Look at the way that central heart expands outward in the trippiest way possible. Okay, it’s entirely likely that a verrry long work week has made me loopy, but this image is kind of great, no? Don’t you wish more movie posters were this avant-garde and/or comic-book inspired? You can find this one for sale at mondotees.com. And that raises the question: Which movie posters do you have on your home/office walls? I’ve got a Felicity TV poster in my office, and Moulin Rouge in the bedroom closet, waiting for a bigger apartment. And why I don’t have Contact is troubling indeed! Your turn.
