Chitika Research,”a full-service on-line advertising network serving over 2 billion monthly impressions across more than 80,000 websites,” has been closely monitoring the sales figures of the Apple iPad since its release into the wild on April 3rd. Chitika is basing its volume estimates on the number of unique iPads connecting to the Chitika ad network, which can be tracked in real time here. At time of article publishing, the ad network estimates that over 511,000 iPad have been sold by Apple. Since Chitika’s sales estimates are based on the number of iPads that have been turned on and connected to the internet, as opposed to Apple’s number which includes “deliveries to channel partners,” the Chitika number could be more accurate then the numbers coming out of Cupertino. We say “could be more accurate” because those who purchased an iPad over the weekend technically could have waited until Monday or Tuesday to fire it up for the first time — although, we don’t understand those kind of people. What do you think? Still not as impressive as the 700,000 figure that Mr. Munster threw out there… anyone ready to call the iPad launch a success or failure yet?

I'm glad someone actually took the time to design a simple stand that not only matches the iPad's industrial design but makes it look even better. The Joule's made in California, but it reminds me of classic 70s European designs.

Judging from our recent poll, a sizable number of folks have had problems with their iPad losing its WiFi connection, and Apple has now confirmed that such an issue does exist -- although it's not exactly saying there's any problems with the iPad itself. According to a new knowledge base article, the issue is known to occur with some third-party dual-band WiFI routers, and tends to happen if you're the same name for each network or different security settings for each network. To ensure your iPad automatically rejoins WiFi networks, Apple suggests (you guessed it) giving the networks different names, and making sure that they're using the same security settings. Of course, that doesn't explain why other devices are able to work just fine with said routers, but this looks to be the most we'll get out of Apple for the time being.
At least some users have also reported some success in fixing the issue by simply turning up the brightness on their iPad (of all things), but Apple doesn't seem to be recommending that as a solution.

If the steady stream of new handsets filling up shops weren’t enough proof that Google’s Android OS is booming like never before, then the fact the Android Market underwent tremendous growth in March surely is. AndroidLib.com, which closely monitors the Android Market, noted that 9,330 free and paid applications appeared within the 31 day period. Representing a gain of 68% over February’s 5,532 new applications, March’s growth amounts to a staggering 58.5% increase in the number of available applications as a whole. If the number of applications continues at the pace it is going today, April will see the market receive just over 6,700 new applications.

Well, Geohot promised a workaround for Sony's removal of the "install other OS" feature in PS3 firmware 3.21 and now Geohot has delivered. While it's not available to the public just yet, Geohot's 3.21OO custom firmware will apparently be simple to install and, as you can see in the video after the break, it works just as you'd expect and simply restores the "other OS" option to its previous place. Geohot even says that the custom firmware might actually enable the other OS feature on the PS3 Slim, but he hasn't yet had a chance to try it out.

Usher scores his third straight No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 as "Raymond v Raymond" bumps Justin Bieber's "My World 2.0" out of the top slot, selling 329,000 copies in its first week according to Nielsen SoundScan. He previously led the tally with 2008's "Here I Stand" and 2004's "Confessions." That's the third-best sales week of the year, following the debuts of Sade's "Soldier of Love" (502,000) and Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now" (481,000).
Usher topped the Billboard 200 his last time out in 2008 with "Here I Stand," selling 443,000 in its opening frame. The star's No. 1 streak started with his first chart-topper -- 2004's "Confessions."

Notion Ink Adam

It was three months ago, in the midst of the most tablet-centric CES in recent memory, that we first laid our hands on Notion Ink's impressive Adam prototype. Since then, we've been on the lookout for signs that the small Indian startup will actually deliver on the tablet's lofty promises, and while that still seems to be on track, the latest update from the company's founder is casting doubt on the originally planned June release date. Stressing the need to agree subsidization deals with telecoms for the 3G-equipped device, Rohan Shravan explains that "some want to give you Adam for Thanksgiving, some for summer holidays." Add in his resolute commitment to only going ahead with the tablet when it's fully capable of running Flash (seriously Adobe, the thing can do 1080p video, but Flash makes it wince?), and you have a significantly more elastic release window than we were originally led to believe. All the same, Rohan couldn't leave us without some titillation, and he also promises "amazing freedom" on the email front and a number of content collaborations that he's not yet allowed to announce. If you ask us, we just want something -- anything -- with a Pixel Qi display; we'll make up our own content, just give us the hardware already.
