She's drop dead in red: Blake Lively looked gorgeous in a scarlet coloured dress at The Town premiere

She was the designer's darling at this weeks Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week having dinner with Karl Lagerfeld and sitting side by side with Anna Wintour at not one, but two shows.

But actress Blake Lively made her greatest impression at the premier for her new film The Town at the Toronto Film Festival on Saturday night.

The 23-year-old Gossip Girl star presented the movie alongside co-stars Jeremy Renner, John Hamm and actor-director Ben Affleck wearing a stunning red sequined Chanel dress with co-coordinating lipstick and shoes.

Microsoft Zune HD2 more than just a rumor?

Just days after I posted about the (not so) crazy rumor I heard about Microsoft readying a Zune HD2, WMPoweruser unearthed a job description that made it sound like such a device is, indeed, in the making.

According to that job description, the Portable Entertainment Group — part of the Mobile Communications Business, and the team which built and shipped the current Zune HD — is “currently building the next generation of portable entertainment and communication devices.” There’s no word whether this next-gen is more like an iPod Touch (what I heard) or some kind of mobile Xbox type of thing (or maybe something in between?). But it does look like something is afoot.

Samsung Galaxy Tab headed to Verizon, Sprint & AT&T; Euro carriers spill price details

Slow is the drip of Samsung Galaxy Tab pricing information; vast is our desire to get our hands on the Froyo slab. After SIM-free figures for Germany and the UK emerged, the Wall Street Journal is now suggesting that Verizon, Sprint and AT&T have all signed up for their own version of the 7-inch slate. Meanwhile, it seems reps for T-Mobile and Vodafone in Germany were more talkative than they ought to be while at IFA, both revealing some figures of their own.

According to ARMdevices, while at IFA 2010 both carriers confirmed that they’d be offering the Galaxy Tab at €799 if bought without a new, two year agreement. If users opted for the subsidized version, they’d get it for €200-300 outright but be tied into a two year data plan costing €40 per month for a 5GB allowance.

Ah Sa and Nicholas Tse to play lovers in "Sword Heroes' Fate", Cecilia Cheung accompanies Nicholas on set

Hairun Media Co. and Beijing Runya Media Co.'s Mainland TV series production <Sword Heroes' Fate> held a media press conference in Shandong on September 10. Lead actors Nicholas Tse, Charlene Choi and cast members Yumiko Cheng, Kenny Kwan, Sun Xi, Wu Ya Qiao, and Sun Zu Yang accepted interviews from the media. Cecilia Cheung who all along has accompanied Nicholas Tse attended a Shanghai event for work the day media arrived. Even though Nicholas Tse personally expressed that he is getting older, and he is less willing to film action movies, the filming this time around should be the happiest recollection for Nicholas Tse. Besides having lovable wife Cecilia Cheung accompanying him, Cecilia Cheung and lead actress Ah Sa are both willing to be Nicholas Tse's chefs.

The characters in <Sword Heroes' Fate> have two identities, with the same actor portraying a life in modern day and a virtual life in ancient times, as both characters constantly alternate. Nicholas Tse plays the part of Zhao Xiao Zhao and Charlene Choi plays the part of Xiao Ye Zi. The two play fiancees in modern day, but the two are separated by time and space and cannot stay together. Nicholas Tse has no choice but to give up his reality, enter the Tang dynasty years, duel with experts at every step of the way, in order to obtain the "Nine Day Mysterious Jade," and reunite with his fiancee.

In the series, Ah Sa acts as Nicholas Tse's sweetheart, and as the Tang dynasty's gentle and soft number one beauty. Afterwards, due to a misunderstanding that arises with Zhao Xiao Zhao, she accidently becomes a member of an evil cult, masters of a unique martial arts. But deep in her heart, she stil loves Zhao Xiao Zhao. Facing the media, when presenting her own character, Ah Sa shyly explained that it's only her character that is a beautiful woman; she doesn't think of herself as a beautiful woman and doesn't have the charm and grace of the Tang dynasty's beautiful woman. However, by her side, Yumiko Cheng and Kenny Kwan loudly said: "You are a beautiful woman," causing Ah Sa to blush.

HTC 7 Trophy tipped by Vodafone: QWERTY Windows Phone 7 candybar?

Mention of a new HTC-made Windows Phone 7 device has popped up in Vodafone’s database, with BestBoyz‘s source spotting the mysterious smartphone on the German branch of the carrier’s systems. The “HTC 7 Trophy” has no details beyond the name, but the “7″ certainly suggests Microsoft’s upcoming smartphone OS; meanwhile it’s not the first time we’ve heard of the Trophy name, either.

In fact, the HTC Trophy was one of the so-called Productivity models in HTC’s leaked 2010 roadmap of devices from all the way back in December 2009. Then, it was tipped to have a 3-inch capacitive touchscreen, hardware QWERTY keyboard, 5-megapixel camera and a copy of Windows Mobile 6.5.3, all in a candybar-format chassis.

A May 2010 release was also suggested, which obviously failed to pan out. It’s unclear whether HTC are planning to just reuse the name or – hopefully – the form-factor too.

Leak claims Nintendo 3DS will launch November 20

I can’t read Japanese, but apparently this Tweet claims that the Nintendo 3DS will be launched on November 20. The tweet is from a Japanese product designer and Nintendo 3DS Blog reports that the Tweet reads, “On November 20th, the 11 goods I designed for use with the 3DS will go on sale simultaneously. Those of you buying the 3DS, please buy them while you’re at it! This will be officially announced on the homepage eventually, lol. Best regards.”

I am betting we all know one product developer who will never work for Nintendo again, assuming this isn’t just a hoax for attention. Apparently, after the Tweet in the image was removed a different post replaced it stating, “OIRA is designed to place 20 11 11 3DS product will be released simultaneously for the product.”

The leaked launch date rings true based on other information that we have heard about launch date for the 3DS. The 11-20 launch day would be a Saturday and if true, you had better be up early. This will be one of the hard to get items this holiday season.

John Mayer Swears Off Women (You Know, Until Next Week)

Serial womanizer and world-class douchebag John Mayer has reportedly decided to take a hiatus from his favortie pasttime — bedding blondes, brunettes, and all other (White) women with a pulse — following the fallout from his controversial interview with Playboy earlier this year.

Mayer, 32, has bedpost notches attributable to actresses Jennifer Aniston and Jennifer Love Hewitt, but is choosing to lie low after putting his foot in it by blabbing about Jessica “Sexual Napalm” Simpson’s lady parts and making a number of racist (and generally douchey) remarks in a March interview with the men’s mag.

Tattling tipsters tell Us Magazine that the public outcry over the article, mixed with poor sales of his album, have convinced the singer to step out of the limelight for a while.

There will be no singing, no dancing, and no acting on Jay Chou's new show

With his new variety show in brewing, Jay Chou has already arranged many of his buddies to go on; but when asked if he would be inviting Jolin Tsai, he said, “No because people only cherish what is rare,” indicating that fans won't be seeing these two superstars collaborating any time soon. Jay revealed that they still chat every now and then ever since their famous Double-J stunt at his concert.

The busy man is still holding concert tours while preparing for his highly anticipated variety show. He expressed that he is deeply influenced by veteran hosts Chang Hsiao-Yen and Jacky Wu. He remembers that when he first started out as a singer songwriter, he often visited and watched Jacky while he was hosting his variety shows. He praises Hsiao-Yen Jie for her ability to create a relaxing atmosphere and commented that he laughed the most while going on her latest talk show.

President Chou insists that there will be no singing, no dancing, and no acting on his new show - President Chou will probably be telling a lot of 'cold' (lame) jokes instead. He says that he will create his own style of hosting and “not be Jay Chou.” President Chou is already fully prepared for criticisms since it will be his first time hosting, and he joked, “This prediction (about receiving criticisms) is even more amazing than Lu Chen's.” - for those who missed out, Lu Chen predicted news headlines at his magic show last month.

Happy 25th Birthday, Super Mario Bros.

On September 13, 1985, Super Mario Bros. was released in Japan, meaning the world's most famous plumber's most famous game is now 25 years old. Happy birthday!

It seems almost pointless marking the occasion with a round-up, or a few paragraphs outlining his importance to video games - and video gamers - because it's Mario. He isn't important to video games. He is video games.

Whether appearing in his own flagship games or in spin-off titles where he plays basketball or becomes a paper airplane, Nintendo's mascot has been the most recognisable (and profitable) face this industry has ever - and will likely ever - see, almost single-handedly driving Nintendo through five whole generations of video game success.

T-Mobile’s myTouch HD to have Android 2.2, front-facing camera

TmoNews has published a document that seems to shed a little more light on the myTouch HD handset due out from T-Mobile. The document details that the device will have a 3.8-inch screen, HSPA+ radio, Wi-Fi, 4 GB internal memory, micro-SD card slot ( 8 GB card included), 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, front-facing VGA camera, Android 2.2, and SWYPE. The document also touts the handsets “1 GHz dual processor” as a feature. Still no word as to when this bad boy is going to be street-legal, hopefully we’ll have more details to report soon. We’ve got the full document for you after the break.

YouTube testing live video streaming

We've been anticipating this for a long time, but it appears that YouTube is really and truly ready to give live video streaming a try in a test Monday and Tuesday with partner sites.

Next New Networks, a producer of series programming for the Internet, said Monday that it is among four alpha testers of the new YouTube live-streaming platform, with three of its series joining the live stream over the two-day period.

Web entertainment company Young Hollywood on Monday said it would be presenting live celebrity interviews, starting with skateboarder Tony Hawk.

"Online video continues to grow in popularity around the globe, and so it is thrilling to be among the Alpha testers of this new chapter in original Web programming," said Vanessa Pappas, vice president of audience and strategic partnerships at Next New Networks, in a statement.

YouTube is also adding live video to channel pages from Howcast and Rocketboom, according to USA Today, which cited YouTube product manager Joshua Siegel. "We think of live as the next chapter in online video," Siegel told the paper.

YouTube has experimented with live video in the past. Just last week it Webcast the Google press conference unveiling Google Instant. But this appears the first test of a full-fledged live streaming platform the likes of Ustream and Livestream, TechCrunch pointed out.

YouTube did not immediately respond to an e-mail request for confirmation and more details on the tests.

Moon Geun Young confirmed for “Mary Skipped the Curfew”; Lee Minho to star in the Korean version of ‘City Hunter’!

Moon Geun Young confirmed for “Mary Skipped the Curfew”

The speculation that the Geuns (Jang Geun Suk & Moon Geun Young) will co-star in “Mary Skipped the Curfew” has been confirmed.

“Mary Skipped the Curfew” is scheduled to air on November after KBS “SungKyunKwan Scandal”. According to the publisher agent, “Moon Geun Young will play the part of Mary Wee, a daughter who endures through the hardships of life after her father’s business failure. Mary is an innocent and optimistic feminist”.

In the script, Mary is in a 100 day two-way virtual marriage with a broke, indie band lead vocalist Kang Moo Kyul and with rich, charismatic, successful Jung In.

Kumi Koda to release first cover album

Kumi Koda (27) is releasing her first cover album on October 13, titled "ETERNITY ~Love & Songs~." The album will include several famous songs with new arrangements, ranging from R&B to electro to acoustic.

Koda, who is celebrating her 10th anniversary this December, came up with the idea for the album 3 years ago. In February 2008, she started production on it, finding time between her releases and tours to select the right songs, create unique arrangements, and perfect her versions.

Most of the songs on the album are famous hits by artists such as Momoe Yamaguchi, Seiko Matsuda, Akina Nakamori, Hiromi Go, and Anzen Chitai. Koda explained that she had come to love the kayokyoku genre because her mother raised her listening to that music. However, the album will also include the song "0-ji Mae no Tsunderera," originally sung by her sister misono (25).

Taylor Swift “You’re Still An Innocent” Lyrics Express Forgiveness For Kanye West (Video)

Lindsay Lohan made her first post-jail and rehab TV appearance, host Chelsea Handler got spanked, Lady Gaga thanked “The Gays,” and after a year of silence Taylor forgave Kanye (at least it seems that way) during Sunday night’s 2010 MTV Video Music Awards.

Lady Gaga announces title of her upcoming new album during VMA speech, steals show

Lady Gaga had a reason to sing at Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards.

The pop star, nominated for a record-setting 13 trophies, took home top honors, winning video of the year for "Bad Romance" – and seized the opportunity to trill for Cher, who presented her with the Moonman trophy.

"I never thought I'd be asking Cher to hold my meat purse," a tearful Gaga said at the podium in a bacon-colored outfit.

"I promised that if I won this tonight, I'd announce the name of my new record," she said. After exhaling, Gaga revealed it is titled Born This Way. Then, she belted out a refrain as Cher looked on. "God makes no mistakes," she sang. "I'm on the right track baby. I was born this way."

Taylor Swift sings about Kanye West (we think, sort of) at the VMAs: Is this the official end to the saga?

Taylor Swift “surprised” the audience at the VMAs (though word of the performance leaked last night) with a song “about” Kanye West’s now-all-too-infamous stage-crashing incident at last year’s ceremony. And a good thing word leaked yesterday, or we’d barely know this song she sang was vaguely, possibly, inspired-ish by said lapse in manners. The replay of the incident at the beginning of her appearance helped make it clearer, but then it was all moody lighting and red lipstick and sparkles. She looked gorgeous, as she is wont to do, but, um, the actual song was a pretty opaque: She seems to be saying Kanye “lost [his] balance on a tightrope” and “lost [his] mind trying to get it back” and also “who you are is not where you’ve been,” thus he is “still an innocent.” Perhaps the clearest reference to the rapper was when she said “32 is still growing up now” — lo and behold, he was that very age when he crashed the stage.

At any rate, she seems to have forgiven him: “Time turns flames to embers,” and “minds change like the weather — I hope you remember today is never late to be brand new.” So, yay. Let’s all toast to the (hopefully) final note in that moment that launched a thousand blog posts, apologies, and replays on YouTube. Everyone’s been wondering if her new album full of confessional tunes, Speak Now, would address the debacle — and now we have our answer! And she’s had the last word. There, don’t we all feel better now?

How do you feel, Music Mixers? Do you have proper closure on Taylor/Kanye-gate?

MTV Video Music Awards Fashion: Who Looked Best?

At this year's MTV Video Music Awards, all eyes were on Lady Gaga and what the singer would wear on the red carpet.

It's safe to say the eccentric artist didn't disappoint.

Feast your eyes on her unusual outfit below and then click on a slew of photos of other stars at the event. THG will conduct a number of fashion face-offs between various attendees tomorrow, as well as recap the winners, but for now, we just wanna know: Who looked best?

Eminem Kicks Off VMAs With Surprise Rihanna Cameo

Well what do you know? It looks like fiery fivehead (I kid, I kid!) Rihanna made it to Los Angeles in time for the VMAs after all. Rihanna had been excepted to skip MTV’s 2010 Video Music Awards to remain in Hawaii, where she is filming scenes for her first feature film, Battleship. Instead, the style star managed to hop a plane to the City of Angels just in time for an opening performance with eight-time VMA nominee Eminem. The pair performed their hit duet, “Love the Way You Lie,” to optimum perfection.

Lindsay Lohan Appears in Chelsea Handler VMAs Skit

Fresh out of jail and rehab, Lindsay Lohan made her first appearance back on the Hollywood scene during a scripted skit for Chelsea Handler's VMA entrance.

Handler, the host of the show, is seen in her robe, clutching a cup. The troubled 'Mean Girls' star then confronts her and asks the comedian if she has been drinking, which Chelsea denies.

"Really, then why is your ankle bracelet going off?" Lohan questions in a cheeky reference to her own SCRAM bracelet that she was forced to wear before a judge ordered her to jail.

"Oh that just means that my table's ready at the Cheesecake Factory," Handler answers. Watch It

Microsoft, Intel tout faster IE9 graphics

Recent Microsoft and Intel primers on Internet Explorer 9's accelerated graphics point to snappier Web browsing.

Microsoft will launch the beta of the upcoming Internet Explorer browser on Wednesday at an event in San Francisco as competition from Chrome, Firefox, and Safari has spurred Redmond to beef up its graphics acceleration, among other improvements. And Intel is slated to introduce its Sandy Bridge chip architecture, with features enhanced graphics silicon, at the Intel Developer Forum, which begins on Monday.

In a blog posted on Friday, Microsoft spelled out what it says are the merits of "full vs. partial acceleration," while Intel, in a new video, is claiming IE9 acceleration on its Core i series of chips--which will include new Sandy Bridge processors.

Graphics chip-based acceleration (Microsoft calls it "hardware acceleration") shifts some tasks from the main processor (CPU) to the graphics processor (GPU). Mainstream GPUs pack in dozens or even hundreds of processing cores. While each GPU core delivers a tiny fraction of the processing power of a CPU core, combined, they can tackle certain tasks much more quickly and efficiently than a CPU. Intel, for its part, has improved the built-in graphics on its Core i series of processors and will integrate its fastest graphics function yet onto the CPU in its upcoming Sandy Bridge processor.

Halo: Reach Review: A Beautiful Beginning For A Wonderful End

Halo: Reach isn't the beginning, it's the end.

Sure, Microsoft might continue to churn out Halo game after Halo game, but this will be the last one that Bungie will ever have a hand in developing, or so we're told. And that's exactly how Halo: Reach feels: Like a swan song.

Halo: Reach is meant to be a prequel, the table setter for the Halo trilogy that put Bungie, and in many ways the Xbox, on the map. In it you take on the role of a faceless space marine, the newest member of the United Nations Space Command special operations unit Noble Team. As Noble 6, you're an unwelcome replacement in a unit that always seems in need of fresh blood.

As the game opens you're given a dramatic look at the world of Reach, a planet you'll spend the next eight or so hours of gaming, fighting to defend.

Seeing double: Reese Witherspoon's daughter is a total mini-me

There's no mistaking where Reese Witherspoon's daughter gets her looks from.

With her blonde hair and sweet smile, eleven-year-old Ava Phillippe is the absolute spitting image of her Oscar winning actress mother.

Reese was spotted dropping her mini-me daughter off at her father, Ryan Phillippe's house yesterday in West Hollywood.

The Sweet Home Alabama actress has been dating Hollywood agent Jim Toth since the beginning of the year.

They were first spotted together getting cosy over dinner at the end of January.

The 34-year-old split with Brokeback Mountain star Jake Gyllenhaal last December after three years together.

Spencer Pratt Arrested in Costa Rica

After Spencer Pratt insisted in a dubious missive to TMZ that he'd been apprehended south of the border, legal paperwork now apparently proves that he was indeed arrested in Costa Rica over the weekend, as he was making his way back to the U.S.

His crime? Felony possession of a firearm.

Before news even reached the States, Heidi Montag's estranged hubby reached out to TMZ earlier today with the following statement:

"As part of my spiritual cleansing I've spent the last week living alone in the jungle, reflecting on my past transgressions, and working to become a better person. I had to live off the land, and hunt to survive. As I departed the country this morning to continue my spiritual journey, I mistakenly brought my hunting weapons to the airport. It was an honest mistake, and they sent me on my way."

But wait a sec, what was that about living alone in the jungle? Last month, Pratt was spotted in Costa Rica with Montag, although the couple are reportedly proceeding with their divorce.

Do all hardcore PC gamers look down on casual gaming?

Are PC gamers who choose fighting wars on terrorism or slaying aliens with an overclocked, liquid-cooled desktop elitists who thumb their noses at those whose gaming interests tend toward building farms? A polemical post on the Games Brief blog argues just that.

Nicholas Lovell argues that those who sneer at the runaway success of casual gaming, which you’ll often find on Facebook and which has a majority audience of female and over-30 players, are snobs who can’t handle the fact that 233 million people play games from leading casual gaming developer Zynga each month. And he dismisses claims that casual game companies are stealing ideas and dumbing down PC gaming with the argument: If something’s so popular, then there must be merit in it. In comparison:

I think that making incredibly expensive, hard-to-play games that require proprietary hardware and prior experience to enjoy is a dumb way of providing gaming entertainment to a global audience.

PlayStation Move goes on sale at Best Buy a little early

We're still a couple days away from the PlayStation Move's September 19 launch date, but hey -- who said Best Buy has to follow the rules? One of our readers picked up a Move at a Best Buy in Benton Harbor, Michigan today, and we'd expect the trickle to turn into a flood by the time the "official" launch finally arrives. So -- who's buying one?

Amit bids farewell in anticipation of A-Mei’s comeback

A-Mei Chang’s alter ego Amit has had nothing but success ever since her debut in 2009. The GMA's Best Female Singer is stepping down to make way for the real A-Mei. Amit held her last show for the time being at Legacy Taipei. In contrast to the stadiums and arenas she’s accustomed to, this venue can only hold 1000 fans. She misses the atmosphere of performing to a smaller crowd, but said, “(I’m) afraid, (I) can even hear your breathing.”

Amit performed nine songs from her award-winning album, as well as some tracks that were rarely seen in her live performance. Sodagreen’s Wu Tsing-Fong (青峰) and singer/producer Adia (阿弟仔) were her special guests of the night. Tsing-Fong sang “掉了(Lost it)”, which he wrote for the Amit album. In return, she sang “小情歌 (Little Love Song)” with his accompaniment on the piano . Adia presented her with their co-award for this year’s Golden Melody Best Producer on behalf of the Government Information Office.

During rehearsals, she actually injured her toe after stepping on some broken glass. The practice room's manager was so worried that he apologized with three boxes of mooncakes. She went on stage with high heels as usual despite her injury. The show extended from 60 minutes to over 2 hours as her fans were reluctant to let Amit go. The original A-Mei expects to return with a new album this December.

Wu Chun releases "The Bodyguard" with Patty Hou

In the music video, Wu Chun plays the handsome bodyguard, while the engaged-in-real-life Patty Hou plays the anchorwoman of his dreams. It is actually the first time Wu Chun has been the lead of a Fahrenheit MV. He laughed, “It’s finally my turn, Jiro Wang in ‘Stay With Me’ and Aaron Yan in ‘Lonesome Spirit’ were both leads in the videos. At last, I’m taking the stage.”

Gone to the dark side: Jessica Biel debuts her new darker 'do

Jessica Biel has gone to the dark side.

The 28-year-old showed off a new dark brown hair colour yesterday as she left the Byron and Tracy hair salon in Beverly Hills.

Biel's hair is usually a light golden brown colour, significantly lighter than her new shade of choice.

The A-Team actress looked stunning, dressed casually in stone coloured trousers, white shirt and a pin striped blazer.

There was no sign of Biel's boyfriend of three years, Justin Timberlake, who is currently filming Friends With Benefits with co-star Mila Kunis.

No more Hermione as grown up Emma Watson heads back to the U.S. for new term

Dressed in jeans and a cardigan, her hair closely cropped, it's clear Emma Watson has moved on from the role which, for many years, defined her.

Once undistinguishable from her alter ego Hermione, the 20-year-old is now barely recognisable as the tousle-haired Harry Potter star.

And that's sure to be the plan. As she headed back to the U.S. for the start of the new university term, a widely smiling Emma seemed delighted with her new look.

She has spent the summer holidaying with her family, shopping with her brother, visiting Bangladesh on behalf of ethical clothing chain People Tree and modelling for the Fair Trade company.

Sofia Coppola Takes Golden Lion in Venice

The director Sofia Coppola, above, was awarded the 67th Venice Film Festival’s Golden Lion prize for best film on Saturday, The Associated Press reported. “Somewhere,” Ms. Coppola’s drama about a Hollywood star who realizes how empty his life is after reconnecting with his 11-year-old daughter, stars Stephen Dorff (“Public Enemies”) and Elle Fanning, younger sister to Dakota. The festival jury was unanimous in its decision to award the prize to Ms. Coppola, said the director Quentin Tarantino, who served as this year’s jury chairman. “This film enchanted us from its first screening,” he said. The movie covers familiar territory for Ms. Coppola. Her widely praised 2003 film, “Lost In Translation,” shared similar themes, and Ms. Coppola spent much of her childhood moving around with her father, the director Francis Ford Coppola. Among the other prizes given out on Saturday were the Silver Lion, for best director, and the Osella, for best screenplay, both of which went to Álex de la Iglesia of Spain for his movie “Balada Triste de Trompeta” (“A Sad Trumpet Ballad”). A special jury prize was given to Jerzy Skolimowski for his film “Essential Killing,” which also earned Vincent Gallo (“The Brown Bunny”) an award for best actor.

Miley Cyrus, Liam Hemsworth Are Back On!

Mere weeks after announcing their split, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are an item once more, a source close to the couple confirms to UsMagazine.com.

Spotted grabbing Starbucks together Saturday in Los Angeles, the pair reunited after Cyrus, 17, returned from filming her new flick, LOL, in Paris.

Cyrus and Hemsworth, 20, met in 2009 on the set of The Last Song, based on the Nicholas Sparks novel.

At the L.A. premiere of Last Song in March, the Aussie actor told Us they had "a lot of fun" filming the romantic drama.

"It was pretty much jokes every day," he said. "Jokes and shooting on the beach -- there wasn't much to complain about!"

The same month, Cyrus gushed to Parade: "[Liam has] become my best friend in the whole wide world. I love him. He really respects me for who I am because coming from Australia, he really didn't know me as the celebrity I am here. I got to tell him about myself on my own terms and my own way. He had no preconceived notion of who I was supposed to be."

Resident Evil Afterlife wins weekend with $27.7 mil

Four movies in, there's no sign of franchise fatigue for "Resident Evil."

The newest big-screen adaptation of the hit horror video-game series, titled "Resident Evil: Afterlife," opened to $27.7 million in the U.S. and Canada this weekend, according to an estimate from distributor Sony Pictures. It was the first film in the franchise made in 3-D.

"Resident Evil" was the only new movie to open nationwide this year on the traditionally slow weekend after Labor Day. Total receipts for all films were the lowest for any weekend so far this year, according to Hollywood.com.

How Bing Could've Almost Beaten Google to "Instant" a Year Ago

Google's shouting loudly about it's new almost-as-fast-as-you-think Instant search powers, and it is indeed clever. But a programmer worked out how to do this for Microsoft a year ago. Could Bing have beaten Google?

The clever geeky search guru we're talking about here is Long Zheng. A year ago, he wrote a front-end engine for Microsoft's own search engine, using existing APIs and coding tricks, that does almost exactly the same sort of "updating as you type" tricks that Instant does on Google. Check it out by clicking this link, and entering any old search phrase that comes to mind.

Impressive, isn't it? Notice how similar it feels to using Google's Instant powers. Zheng wrote it in his spare time too. The Web paid a modicum of attention to the invention, back in August 2009, and this week Microsoft's got all excited about it. Bing's director Stefan Weitz has even spoken to USA Today about it—noting that Google's Instant "interface itself isn't anything new. There was a site put up last year that does the same thing with Bing APIs." Then he talks some smack about how Bing is a "decision engine" (even though we all know it's no Wolfram Alpha!) and while speed and fewer clicks are all very good from a user convenience point of view, but the real game is "not about giving you much more links faster, it really is about getting you the information you need to make a decision faster in the format that makes the most sense." Stefan blithely ignores all the thinking about how much of a boost this will give to the online advert trade, but at least he does acknowledge that "speed is important."

Android 2.x now on 70 percent of all active Android phones

Time to get down and boogie if you think the Android fragmentation issue is overblown. Google has dropped its latest platform version stats and Android 2.2, aka Froyo, has managed to corner a healthy 28.7 percent of all active Googlephones (those that accessed the Market within the two weeks leading up to September 1), rapidly closing the gap on version 2.1 and nearly matching in number the handsets still stuck on the Cupcake or Donut diet. When you consider that back in May those pesky 1.5 and 1.6 versions were on a whopping 62 percent of Android mobiles, you'll probably agree that phone makers seem to be getting their act together in terms of delivering Google's latest wares in a timely fashion. Who'd have thought it, the more practice they have, the better they're getting at their jobs!

ELVA Hsiao's new album hits the Internet before it hits stores

ELVA Hsiao’s new album doesn’t hit stores until September 24th, but all eleven tracks from "Miss ELVA" are already available online. Although there were some concerns that the songs were leaked, her company reassured it was not the case. They revealed she has actually been chosen by China Mobile to be its featured star, so fans can now sample the full album on their website.

To compensate those who have preordered a hard copy, each edition will come with a 24-page 36 x 26 cm photo book, as well as a MAC waterproof eyeliner or a pair of colored contact lenses. The bonus gifts will set her company back another 18.75 million NTD, but they are confident that fans will preorder a copy after listening to it online.

Jolin will celebrate her 30th birthday by taking a five day vacation

Jolin Tsai will be celebrating her 30th birthday on the 15th. She will be rewarding herself with a five day vacation after all the non-stop promotion she’s been doing. Since Jolin is always the topic of gossip, the media asked if one of her birthday wish was to have less gossips, but Jolin laughed, “Gossips are like my love relationships. I make wishes regarding them every year, but it’s no use. I’m not going to waste my birthday wish on those this year.”

She originally planned to go to Thailand for her birthday vacation, but because she was afraid of getting even more tanned than she is now, she might go shopping in Tokyo Japan instead.

Jolin revealed that one of her future goals may be to go into acting, “I don’t have set plan for it, but I’ve received an invitation to act. It’s an opportunity to learn something new.”

How Apple could ship 48 million FaceTime devices this year

Earlier today Fortune published a story about how Apple could potentially ship 48 million FaceTime capable devices in 2010, allowing Steve Jobs to keep his promise of shipping "tens of millions" this year.

The obvious starting point for the math is the iPhone 4, the original FaceTime device. Apple estimates that it will sell 11 million iPhone smartphones this quarter, and another 11.4 million next quarter, which starts at the end of September. The recent launch of the new iPod touch, which also supports FaceTime, could add another 10 million in the last 3 months of this year alone. Even if you consider that not all iPhones sold will be the FaceTime capable iPhone 4, we're probably close to the 30 million range already.
