Lindsay Lohan made her first post-jail and rehab TV appearance, host Chelsea Handler got spanked, Lady Gaga thanked “The Gays,” and after a year of silence Taylor forgave Kanye (at least it seems that way) during Sunday night’s 2010 MTV Video Music Awards.
“Who you are is not what you did,” Swift crooned to the rapper in “Innocent,” a song she wrote about last year’s famed award eruption incident. “You’re still an innocent.”
Though West was never officially named, the song’s lyrics seemed to make overt references to him and his infamous stage-crashing. Swift sang that West was “32 and still growing up … Lost your balance on the tightrope, it’s never too late to get back.” You remember last year’s VMAs, when a drunken Yeezy boldly took the stage to tell Taylor — and the world — at Swift’s Best Female Video prize for “You Belong To Me” should have gone to Beyonce instead. Kanye’s once-soaring popularity was temporarily sidelined after the debacle, and the outspoken hip-hopster was even forced to pull out of a headlining tour with pop sensation Lady Gaga.
“Innocent” is set to appear on Swift’s third album, Speak Now, due Oct. 25.
