Apple iPad Reminder: Pick Your Reservations Up Tomorrow at 9AM

We understand that there’s a lot of iPad news out there — there’s no way to shake it, if that’s what you’re trying to do. Well, you could find yourself a dark cave and close your eyes and cover your ears, but what fun is that? Then again, you might be one of the hundreds of thousands out there that’s actually interested in the tablet from Apple, so maybe this little post might do you some good. Then again, if you’re reading this and you forgot you had an iPad on reservation at your local Apple Store, we probably can’t help you, and you may need to seek psychiatric care.

The emails have been coming out since about Tuesday, but considering this is the eve of the release, we wanted to post up a friendly reminder that your iPad (should) be available starting at 9am. If you’re not already in line, then maybe you have plans to, or are just going to get up all bright and early. If you do plan to sit it out in a line overnight, let us know! We’d love to hear your stories.

Gerard Butler Explains Jen Aniston "Butt Grab"

Gerard Butler recently got very touchy-feely with his The Bounty Hunter costar Jen Aniston -- and there's photographic proof.

In a buzzed-about rearview photo from March 27, Butler tightly grabbed Aniston's bottom while greeting fans on the River Seine in Paris.

During a Friday appearance on syndicated radio show "Johnjay and Rich," Butler, 40, joked about the bootylicious snapshot.

"I'm a bit of a bad boy," the actor said. He then demurred, "by the way, I'm still not sure my hand was really on her butt. I think that's just the way the camera was angled," before breaking into laughter. "I actually haven't seen [the photo]."

His interviewers weren't buying it. "[Your finger] looks implanted inside the crease!" one co-host protested.

Taylor Swift and Cory Monteith: Supposedly Dating!

Is Taylor Swift torn between two young hunks?

We can't independently validate this report, but that's the rumor going around. The hot rumor. It all started when she spent the night of March 23 cozying up to Glee cast member Cory Monteith at Pinz Bowling Center in Studio City, Calif.

Then, the very next day, Swift reunited with former co-star and ex-boyfriend, Eclipse star Taylor Lautner, for lunch. Are both just friends - or potential boyfriends?

If it's the latter, how many heartthrobs does one girl need, and who's the frontrunner? Despite her namesake being so hot, Cory might have the inside track.

The Taylors are “good friends,” an insider tells OK!, while Cory Monteith and Swift are more than that - and have been “happily and quietly dating” for a while!

John Forsythe, Television Legend, Dies at 92

Actor John Forsythe, who became one of the biggest television stars ever thanks to major roles in 'Charlie's Angels,' 'Dynasty' and 'Bachelor Father,' has passed away at the age of 92 after a year-long battle with cancer.

In a statement obtained by CNN, Forsythe's family said the following: "He was 92 years old and, thankfully, he died as he lived his life... with dignity and grace."

For as famous as Forsythe was, his voice was even more infamous thanks to his role as the voice of Charlie in the 'Charlie's Angels' TV series and also in two 'Charlie's' movies. His deep take on the phrase "Good morning, Angels," became almost synonymous with the franchise -- enough to land him a $5 million contract to voice Charlie in the two recent hit movies.

Can Microsoft survive the iPad?

Yes: By leveraging its strengths, Microsoft can keep Apple from stealing the future

You've heard all the lame attempts to categorize the Apple iPad. It's a "netbook with no keyboard." It's a "giant iPhone." It's a "media appliance." It's "magical."

Although all but the last one are more-or-less true, those categorizations miss the mark. The iPad is nothing less than the future of computing. Touch-screen interfaces that take "gestures" as commands and simulate physical properties for on-screen elements -- not the iPad specifically -- will replace today's windows, icons, menus and mice.

Fifteen years ago, Microsoft launched Windows 95. Back then, it was the only operating system that mattered. Mac OS was, as always, a cult favorite but an also-ran with a one-digit market share.

Windows 95 ruled because it had the most innovative user interface, by far the most application support and total dominance of key markets like PC games. Desktop PCs drove innovation in the industry, and mobile devices were merely super-expensive mini versions of desktop PCs.

Microsoft drops “Series” from Windows Phone 7 Series

Well, all good things must come to an end, right? Looks like Microsoft has decided, in an executive decision kind of way, to drop “Series” from the Windows Phone 7 title. We can’t say that we’re necessarily breathing a sigh of relief, but it will definitely be easier to say, you know? Plus, Windows Phone 7 is more in line with the Windows 7 idea of their recent Operating System releases. It’s good to stay in sync.

The announcement just came from Microsoft’s Windows Phone Twitter client (@WindowsPhone). According to the tweet:

Tis the season for Series finales. We’ve got one too — dropping the ‘Series’ and keeping ‘Windows Phone 7.’ Done.

Firefox regains some lost browser share ground

Chrome's market share hits 6%, IE unaffected by EU ballot, says NetApplications

Firefox last month regained some of the ground it's lost since November 2009, but the open-source software is only holding on at this point in the face of a surging Chrome, a researcher said today.

"Firefox is just holding steady," said Vince Vizzaccaro, executive vice president of NetApplications.com, a California-based Web metrics firm. "In the last six months, it hasn't really moved much."

By the end of March, Mozilla's Firefox accounted for 24.5% of the browsers that surfed to the client sites that NetApplications monitors, an increase of 0.3 of a percentage point over the month before and the first time in the last four months that the browser has gained ground. Six months ago, Firefox owned a 23.8% share.

Show Luo and ELVA have caught the eyes of Cai Zhi Ping, the godmother of idol dramas. Producer Cai hopes to have these two hot pop idols star in a new idol drama with a story written by a Korean screenwriter.

To top it off, they also won “the most energetic male star” and “the best gleaming female star” after tallying the votes from the audience at the award show as well as from online. Microsoft offering Windows 7 upgrade deals

One of the Microsoft's best kept secrets, though not an intentional one, is the fact that it's quite easy to upgrade a PC from one version of Windows 7 to another.

Computers running Windows 7 have all of the features of the high-end Ultimate edition built in. A feature called Windows Anytime Upgrade lets users buy a code and unlock new features, a process that the software maker says can be done in just 10 minutes. Unfortunately, Microsoft hasn't had much luck making users aware of or interested in such upgrades.

Apple iPad gets Yahoo! Entertainment, Shazam, EA games

Although it’s not yet available in the US (it will be starting tomorrow, April 3), Apple’s iPad is already getting applications from third-party developers.

For example, Yahoo has just announced that Yahoo! Entertainment for iPad is now available in the App Store.

Yahoo! Entertainment for iPad features an “intuitive and rich design” and provides users with an easy way of exploring real-time “entertainment content, television listings, videos, news and more.” You can get Yahoo! Entertainment for iPad via iTunes.

HTC teases with EVO 4G video on YouTube

It would appear as though HTC wants to make sure our short attention spans haven’t lost interest in last weeks announcement of the EVO 4G; the world’s first 3G/4G Android phone. HTC has posted a YouTube video showcasing some of the EVO’s strengths, complete with low-key techno music and a 3D-CAD style EVO. Not much else to say about it… the video is queued up after the break, and we can’t wait to get our hands on one.

Google tweaks Gmail's HTML5 web app to better utilize iPad screen space

It's still not a true Gmail app (sigh), but it's a step in the right direction, we suppose. Google has today announced that it has released an experimental user interface for the iPad built on the Gmail for mobile HTML5 web app, but unlike the iPhone and Android versions, this one has been retooled a bit to best take advantage of those extra pixels. iPad Gmailers will find a two-pane view with their conversations on the left and messages on the right, and while it's not exactly revolutionary, it's certainly better than what we're being forced to use on existing smartphones (and their comparatively minuscule displays). The company's openly asking for feedback once your iPad lands, and we couldn't help but notice that it pointed to the fact that Google is still the default search engine embedded into Safari. Who knows -- maybe Steve and Eric really were talking about butterflies and buttercups the other day.

iSuppli: Apple to sell 7.1 million iPads in 2010

Although customers have yet to touch the device, let alone see it in person, that hasn’t stopped iSuppli from predicting that Apple will ship a whopping 7.1 million units of the tablet in 2010. The numbers, which iSuppli has called “conservative”, are based on a high volume of sales to both early adopters and those who are “attracted to the iPad’s unique touch-screen-based user interface”. The number is definitely up there, it’s the highest prediction we’ve heard, but it must be remembered that just a few days into pre-orders Apple supposedly sold more than 150,000 units in the US alone. Elsewhere, Apple itself is said to be surprised by the number of people that have registered their interest in the device. Even though the competition is sure to explode as we head deeper and deeper into 2010 and beyond, iSuppli is already speculating that 2011 will see sales of 14.4 million units with 2012 seeing 20.1 million sold. If any one company can move this much gear that truthfully serves no purpose other than content consumption, it’s definitely Apple.

Spurned, Adobe touts iPad apps using AIR, Flash

Just as a host of Apple iPad applications emerged Friday, Adobe Systems took the opportunity to tout its own programming technology that in some ways is in opposition.

Adobe's Flash technology is ubiquitously plugged in to PC browsers, and the company is trying to spread a related technology called AIR (Adobe Integrated Runtime) for standalone applications. But Apple has barred the doors against it on the iPhone, the iPod Touch, and now the iPad.

Ah Ken escorts Selina home, stays for 3 hours

S.H.E appeared on CTI's "大學生了沒" (Da Xue Sheng Le Mei) a day ago to promote their new album. Selina had subbed for Tao Ching Ying as a host for half a year when the latter went on maternity leave. Na Dou revealed that after Selina stopped hosting, the three of them still kept in contact and that Ah Ken treated Selina especially well. "After dinner, Ah Ken insisted on taking Selina home, and the two of them are always chatting for two to three hours downstairs before he would let her go upstairs."

To this, Ah Ken claimed he was being framed, and said that they were just good friends. Na Dou further revealed, "Last year, Ah Ken paid for a plane ticket and concert ticket out of his own pocket to see S.H.E at their Hong Kong concert, just to support Selina." When Selina hugged her dog Pinky to take a picture with Ah Ken, Ella laughed and commented, "They are holding love for each other." As for Ah Ken's death grip on Selina's waist in another photo, even Ella had to admit, "It's very mushy."

Jesse "in Love with Sandra," Wants Marriage "to Survive"

Jesse James has not yet given up on his marriage to Sandra Bullock.

"Jesse is in love with Sandra," James' attorney Joe Yanny told the Associated Press Friday. The biker mogul checked into a rehab center earlier this week following numerous reports of his infidelity; Yanny would not specify what precisely his client is being treated for.

"This whole thing has destroyed Jesse's entire universe," Yanny said. "Right now, he's a broken man."

"The single most important thing to Mr. James and the children is that the marriage somehow survive."

Megan Fox ‘Keen To Settle Down Aand Have Kids’

Megan Fox wants to get married and have a child — insiders say.

The 23-year-old Transformers actress — who has an on/off romance with Beverly Hills, 90210 actor Brian Austen Green — is keen to become a wife and mother by the time she turns 25.

“Despite her reputation as a Hollywood sex symbol, Megan is actually quite grounded and keen to settle down. She and Brian have discussed the idea of marriage and babies — and both are keen.

“Megan says she’d like to be married by the time she’s 25 — and a baby would be a bonus. She’s very maternal and gets on really well with Brian’s son Kassius. She’d love to have a child of her own.”

Megan has previously spoken out about her maternal side.

Kal Penn returns from Washington for Christmas-themed 'Harold & Kumar' movie

Who needs Washington when you can have White Castle? Kal Penn’s reps confirm that the actor will leave his post as Barack Obama’s associate director of public engagement to return to his acting career. First up for the actor: a new Harold & Kumar movie, this one with a Christmas theme. New Line Studios has confirmed that the movie, to be directed by newcomer Todd Strauss Schulson, will begin filming in late June with an eye on a holiday 2011 release. (Creators Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg are moving to Universal to direct American Pie 4.) The studio, now a division of Warner Bros., is still deliberating whether it will be shot in 3-D. Penn began his White House stint last year, shortly after his character on the television show House was abruptly killed off in April, per Penn’s request to join the Obama administration.

WSJ iPad subscription officially $17.29 per month -- is Murdoch insane?; IBooks App

So we now have the official price for the WSJ iPad app subscription: $3.99 per week with a monthly credit card charge of $17.29. For that you get subscriber-only content areas such as Business and Markets with access to a 7 day archive that can be downloaded and read at any time. It also offers personalization features and the ability to save sections and articles for later reading. And hey, it's actually a bit less than the rumored $17.99 rate. Without the subscription, the free WSJ iPad app is limited to top articles and market data. Here's the catch: a subscription to both the print and online versions of the Wall Street Journal will currently set you back just $2.69 per week (plus 2 weeks free) for a monthly bill of $11.67... eleven dollars and sixty seven cents. Granted the WSJ claims that the 80% discount is a limited time offer but these newsstand discounts are always available in some form. Greed or insanity? Either way, a pricing model like this won't save print.

Update: Fine print says, "Already a WSJ subscriber? Get full access to the iPad™ app for a limited time." That offers some hope to existing subscribers but doesn't make the prospect of subscribing any more attractive to new customers. Unless of course the whole iPad rate can be circumvented by obtaining a login ID and password via the cheaper online-only rate (currently set for $1.99/wk or $8.62/mth). Who's going to try this on Saturday?

iPad roundup: Letterman licking, Colbert chopping, MobileMe and Remote support

Let's get straight to the meat. The iPad was doing the talk show rounds last night, with heavy hitters David Letterman and Stephen Colbert one-upping each other on who can do the sillier thing with it. Letterman went with the old school "if you don't know what to do with it, lick it" routine, while his competitor brought out a more sophisticated salsa preparation act. Pick your favorite from the videos after the break. In more material news, Apple has announced that MobileMe now includes the iPad among its supported devices, while some eager souls over at MacStories have spotted that iTunes 9.1 now references an "iPad remote," which suggests the nearly 10-inch tablet will soon be able to function as one of the most luxurious channel changers around. And you thought you wouldn't find a use for it.

Quake II gets HTML5 port for in-browser gaming [Video]

The comparative benefits of HTML5 and Flash are still being argued, but thanks to a team of three Google engineers we can mark another point up to the HTML5 side. They’ve managed to port Quake II’s game engine over to HTML5, so that you can play it completely within the browser. The end result is 30fps gaming complete with file saving and multiplayer support.

After ID open-sourced the Quake II engine, it was ported over to Java; the Google guys then compiled it to Javascript using the Google Web Toolkit (GWT). In order to get everything working, they had to create a new WebGL based renderer, convert the UDP multiplayer network layer to WebSockets and multiple other tweaks; not bad, given this was their 20-percent project.
