Cheryl Yang plans to reconcile with her abusive father

Taiwanese actress Cheryl Yang has decided to reconcile with her once-abusive father after the Lunar New Year, ending a decade of estrangement and not speaking to each other.

Her father had grabbed her by her hair and knocked her head into the wall when she tried to protect her mother more than 10 years ago. The relationship between the duo soured after that incident and the 32-year-old refused to acknowledge him since, until he secretly visited her on set while she was filming the drama My Queen last year. The pair then started communicating with each other again.

With the recent passing of gal pal and singer Elva Hsiao's mother at the turn of 2010, Cheryl has began to understand the importance of appreciating her loved ones.

At a promotional event for a skincare product two days ago, she said with tears in her eyes, "After the Spring festival, I will be heading to Shanghai to film a show, and I will meet with my father."

She said that she and her father have been keeping in contact via phone calls. "My mother does not have any objections towards it. This is because I witnessed the pain experienced by my close friend when she lost her loved ones. I don't ask for anything now, I just want my loved ones to be well and alive."

Currently, the actress is busy doing a round of advertorials and promotional events. She laughingly shared, "Last year I gave my mother a six-figure sum red packet. This year I will give her an auspicious red packet with S$40,000 (NT$88,000) in it."
