Release dates for Mission Impossible IV and Planet of the Apes prequel

THE release date of Mission Impossible IV has been moved to December 16, 2011, it's been announced tonight by Paramount Pictures.

In February, the studio had indicated the film would come out on May 27 next year.

Tom Cruise is to reprise his role as agent Ethan Hunt and will also be a producer, along with JJ Abrams who directed the previous instalment. The new film doesn't yet have a director.

Meanwhile, 20th Century Fox's Planet of the Apes prequel, to be called Rise of the Apes, has been given a release date of June 24, 2011. Filming is to begin in July with Rupert Wyatt (The Escapist) at the helm.

The apes will this time be digital creations rather than costumed actors in make-up. Peter Jackson's visual effects house WETA will be doing the CGI.

The story, set in present-day San Francisco, centres on genetic experiments that create intelligent apes, triggering a war with mankind.
