I so totally guess it's time to bring back the American Idol roundups, because last time I checked, the show is coming back in six weeks' time. Six weeks! It was just like yesterday when Kris Allen won the title, trumping fan favorite Adam Lambert... well, it seemed like yesterday because Adam's still in the papers and everybody else is moseying along, which leads us to this. On this roundup: Kris discusses Adam's controversial performance, Simon Cowell plans a possible X Factor attack, and something to get me giddy: Allison Iraheta's album, which comes out tomorrow. Yay.
Number one: Would Kris do the same thing? While Adam takes a really big share of the attention, Kris Allen--the actual winner last season, take note--is just taking things in stride, with his self-titled album now out for a couple of weeks or so, and him doing the rounds of television shows now. So here he was, talking to Bonnie Hunt earlier today, and he was asked about that performance at the American Music Awards, and he's just taking it in stride again.
"Maybe next year ... I'll do the same thing," he said, when asked about Adam's kiss with a male keyboardist. No, really, he said it.
Number two: Simon wants to take over Las Vegas. A few months back, the possibility of Simon Cowell bringing his successful singing competition over in the UK, The X Factor, to American shores was floated, especially since reports said he might be allowed to do that if he's to stay with Idol. Well, right now negotiations are still ongoing, but if the go-signal is given, he's got plans already: set everything in Las Vegas.
"Vegas is tailor-made for this show," said Cowell's business partner, Philip Green. "To sing in Vegas? I mean, hell, you get to the final 12 [and tell them] 'Your dream's come true. You're going to sing to Vegas!'"
Curiously, of course, America's Got Talent sends its winners to Las Vegas. And that's a Simon Cowell property, too. Proves that Simon does have a lot of fingers to dip into all those pies.
Number three: Yeah, I know, it sucks when people stare at you like that. Finally, Allison Iraheta talked to the Associated Press just in time for the release of her debut CD, Just Like You, which will hit shelves tomorrow. The full interview's right here, but I'm going to skip over the usual stuff--her talking about her favorite song off the album and working with the likes of Pink and fellow fourth-placer Chris Daughtry--and talk about that other thing that happened when she went on Idol: added recognition.
"My life is totally different," she said. "People know who I am now. Not only do people stare at me because of the redness in my hair, but they act like they know me, even if they don't remember my name. They'll say, 'hey, it's that redheaded girl from Idol.'"
Well, Allie, I don't think that line you floated means they know you that much.
