It had such potential, but potential does not success make, and so ABC has canceled Ugly Betty after four seasons. The network has also cut back this season's episode order from 22 hours to 20.
ABC boss Steve McPherson and Betty show runner Silvio Horta released a joint statement explaining the call: "We've mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty's final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion. We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell."
So how are the castmembers reacting to this announcement? Here's the latest from the stars of the show, including an exclusive statement from our good friend Ana Ortiz:

So how are the castmembers reacting to this announcement? Here's the latest from the stars of the show, including an exclusive statement from our good friend Ana Ortiz:
- The lovely and talented Ortiz, who plays Betty's older sister Hilda, tells us exclusively, "I'm saddened by the news but it's not unexpected. I'm really proud of this season, and I'm proud to be going out on a high note. I think the fact that we stayed on this long is because of the fan support and their love for the show. I love them for that. And I love my Ugly Betty family. I will miss them dearly."
- Original castmember Mark Indelicato released a statement about the cancellation, saying, "It has been an amazing four years. I've learned so much from the wonderful actors I have worked with, it's sad to see this come so unexpectedly, but I think that we all recognize the tremendous work that we have done, and am very grateful for that."
- Guest star Ralph Macchio tweeted, "All should be proud of the run & gr8 work!"
- Former castmember Chris Gorham, who played one-time Betty love interest Henry Grubstick, simply tweeted a sad face emoticon in reaction to the news.
