American Idol’s newest judge have the show a boost in the ratings on her debut night, it was reported Wednesday.Successful talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, who has taken over for Paula Abdul on the singing competition, was widely praised by media following her debut on Tuesday’s Idol — and viewers seem to agree. The show’s ratings were up 12 percent from the previous week, with 27.7 million viewers tuning in to see Ellen critique the contestants during the treacherous Hollywood Week.
