Randy Jackson Leaving “American Idol?”
Is American Idol losing its “Top Dawg?”
With Paula Abdul out and Simon Cowell in his final season, Randy Jackson had been poised to be the last man standing as the final original Idol judge to remain on the judges panel. But in what some TV industry insiders call a stunning move, Randy is reportedly being shoved toward the door as FOX struggles to revamp America’s most watched show.
Rumor on The Snitch Circuit claims the record producer and Idol judge may be let go from FOX’s reality mega-hit at the end of the season — while other reports claim Randy could join the departing Cowell on the US adaptation of Britain’s The X Factor.
Idol producers sat Randy down last week with the devastating news that he may be out of a job come May, a fly on the wall spilled in the Feb. 15 edition of The National Enquirer.
“Randy was basically told that there was a very good chance he was not going to be asked back after this season,” said the tipster. “Now that Simon’s leaving at the end of the season, they are rethinking the roles of the other judges — and that includes Randy…..”
Randy has one more year left on his contract with FOX, but its still up to the network and producers whether or not to renew his option. In a recent interview, the bespectacled bassist-turned-pundit, 53, got misty when asked to share his feelings on the recent shake-up hitting Idol:
“We’ll see what happens and see what the future brings,” Jackson said. “You never know. I’m a little sad the team is changing.”
