"Future X cops" screening time in Mainland China is still undecided, it is reported that because the investor disappeared, the movie directed by Wong Jing, starring Andy Lau, Fan Bing Bing, DaS and Xu Jiao had no money to make the special effects, bringing up a rumor that the movie is "having a bad tail". This rumor is coming from HongKong... Reporters asked the movie's promotional team for more informations and the response they got was "That's absolutly only rumors !"
But the strange thing is that when the journalists could finally reach Wong Jing, the 2 times he used "in the middle of a reunion" to hang up really quickly ; a totally different reaction from the one who used to chat again and again with journalists.
"Future X cops" was supposed to start screening today in Mainland, but from waht is known, the screening time kept on being pushed back, and is already pushed temporarly to end of March or beginning of April.
Hong Kong news : success due to special effects, failure as well
It has already been a year that Andy Lau hasn't had any new movie on the big screens,it wasn't easy to see one of his works getting near it, but unluckily, he encountered this nightmare with investors disappearing and the movie having a rough time to "get born". Yesterday, a Hong Kong magazine reported that "Future X cops" had really awful special effects due to the lack of money and thus its screening time got delayed by the Mainalnd theaters.
"Future X cops" had finished filming last year, and it was supposed to be on the screens around CNY on the 5th of February. Then, the crew said the special effects weren't finised yet, changing the screening dated to the same with Hong Kong's, so it was supposed to start today. And, since last year, the movie had started to be promoted in all the big cities. But now the day day has come, what is wierd is that there is no news about hte movie. From what is reported in Hong Kong, the story behind this is that the Taiwanese investor side, Tsai Song Lin suddenly disappeared, so the special effects fr the movie couldn't be as good as what was planned, in the end, it was rejected by Mainland movie theaters.
It is also reported that when the Mainland theaters executives saw the movie, they felt that the script was old, the special effects were childish. Thinking that there are too many movies showing on February, including "Avatar", that would make "Future X cops" a box-office failure so they decided to show it on April instead.
It is reported in Hong Kong that "Future X Cops" crew had already put parts of the movie online to "test the water" but it got many bad review from netizens. They said the special effects were too awful, and that there may be some copying , calling it a "crappy movie". At the time, Wong Jing said that the movie segment was stolen and the bad special effects were due to the work wasn't finished yet, saying that he'd handle that stealing problem. But, the investors disappeared before all the editing in the mmovie could be done, in a situation were they could not get the invested movey, the crew could only bring the "unfinished version" to the market.
Yesterday, reporters found the segment of "Future X cops " that had been uploaded on the net, in one part, a shot was really looking too fake. Netizens criticised that the special effects weren't even as good as video games and teased the look Andy endorsed when transforming into a robot was very alike the robot from an Anti Virus advert.
"Future X cops" from its first filming day had used its wonderful special effects as a topic, the movie had more than 100 Millions of investments and more than 1000 special effects shots, wanting to be the movie that has the most numerous special effects in Chiese movie history. The story happening in 2085, in the future world, the policeman Zhou Zhi Hao, acted by Andy Lau, has to go back to 2008 in order to save his daughter who has been kidnapped. Hong Kong magazines reported that his Andy Lau accepted this movie only because he was owing a sentimental debt to Cai Song Lin. But now, his "benefactor" made him who was having his reputation greatly problems damaged by the issue of his "hidden marriage" wanted to start over with this movie but his luck got from bad to worse !
The theaters' reply to reporters : never saw the movie
Reporters went to interview 2 big Mainland theaters yesterday, and they both replied that they never heard about any "trial screening" for this movie so of course they never even saw its special effects. The reason why the movie is delayed from what they know is because "it's not ready yet". A movie Theater manager said that he did not reject the movie at all, "in the contrary, because Andy has always been doing great at box office, we are very eager to see this movie coming to the screens"
Movie producing side : the special effects had been finished for a long time
The movie executives told reporters that the reports saying that "Future X cops" having a bad "tail" is only rumors. "The investors has always been there and never disappeared. The special effects have been finished for a long time, we are ready to bring out the copies. Tomorrow, we will have a meeting with the CFC to talk about the screening time. If there is no other problem, it will be screening around The end of March or the beginning of April" Other than that, they also said that they never showed the finished version to any theater yet.
Wong Jing : I've been in a meeting
Reporters reached Wong Jing yesterday at 2 PM but as soon as he knew it was journalists, he said "I'm in a meeting" hanging up quickly. At 5pm, we could reach him again, but even before the journalist said what he called for, Wong said "I have been in a meeting, can't accept interview" So as from what we see, the question of what kind of effects this "Chinese Sci-Fi super movie" will bring can only wait for its screening to be answered.
