Birthday that will bring Susan Boyle £4m happy returns: Singer set to turn multi-millionaire

Singing sensation Susan Boyle is to receive her biggest birthday present ever in 11 days’ time – by officially becoming a multi-millionaire.

Just under a year ago Susan, 48, or SuBo as she is known, wowed judges and the nation with her frumpy appearance on the hit TV show Britain’s Got Talent, singing
I Dreamed A Dream.

Now she has been told she is to get her first payday on her birthday, April 1, when an astonishing £4million will be put into her bank account.

The earnings come from the sales of her chart-topping debut album and a string of international appearances. But friends do not expect the unlikely star to have her head turned by the payout.

Sources close to the singer, who is about to embark on a tour of Japan and Australia, have told The Mail on Sunday that one of her first purchases will be a more luxurious house in Blackburn, the West Lothian town where she has lived all her life.

Last night, a close friend said: ‘People have thought of Susan as a millionaire for months already because her album was launched in November but she hasn’t got it yet.

‘Up until now, her management team have made sure she never wanted for anything, but this is her long-awaited payday finally arriving.’

Her album I Dreamed A Dream, which broke the record on the British charts for the fastest-selling debut album in history – with 3.1million bought in its first four weeks of release – has now sold more than 8.5million worldwide.

And having more than recouped its initial outlay on the singer for recording and promotional costs, Simon Cowell’s record label SyCo is now passing on the royalties from her album sales to her.

Earlier this month, reports suggested that she was poised to buy a £2million property in West London’s Chelsea because she no longer felt safe in her home after she discovered an intruder in January.

But last night the friend added: ‘Susan never had any intention of buying a place in London. It was all just twaddle.

‘Fame hasn’t changed her, but she does recognise that money will bring her security and that’s why she is looking for a new home.’

Next weekend, she will fly out to Tokyo, where she is due to appear on her birthday before a 10,000-strong crowd as a special guest with the Yomiyuri Nippon Orchestra. Then she will fly on to Australia for a series of appearances.
