'It was the right thing to do,' Jackson says of judges' decision to reverse his elimination.
This week, the "American Idol" judges decided to use their one-time-only save on Michael Lynche, who came close to going home this week. Some "Idol" fans and experts were surprised that they used the save so early in the season, but Randy Jackson says Big Mike earned it.
"It was the right thing to do," Jackson told MTV News at the "America's Best Dance Crew" finale on Thursday night. "He sang his brains out [Wednesday] night. It was the right thing to do. I'm happy we did it."
Jackson knows that the decision had to be taken seriously, since it means they won't be able to reverse America's votes if another judges' favorite gets eliminated. "We get one save in the season. He was so good [Wednesday] night, and this is a singing competition," he explained. "And he was the best singer in the whole show [Wednesday] night.
"We started our discussions and were saying, 'My god, well, he's singing amazing tonight,' even though he's had up and down weeks," he continued, describing their deliberation process. And Jackson thinks that Mike didn't get the lowest number of votes because he lacks fans. "I think he would have been safe, and I think they forgot to vote for him thinking, 'Ah, he's going to be there [next week].' "
