Wonder Girls ’2DT’ raises doubts of plagiarism of Wham ‘Bad Boys’
WonderGirls’ comeback new song ’2DT’ has been accused of plagiarism.
On an online community site Bestiz, a netizen pointed out that the song sounded similar to English singer Wham ‘Bad Boys’, garnering much interests from other netizens. The part of the song in question is the 8 bars after the part ‘I’m trying to’. Even for one who is not an expert in music, one will be able to link the similar in the bpm (beat per minute).
The song ‘Bad Boys’ is the first track off Wham’s 1983 debut album ‘Fantastic’. Plagiarism is definitely a serious crime, the evaluation of assessing whether there is plagiarism has taken place has also changed over the years, but it seems that nowadays it can easily do serious damage to the artiste accused of plagiarism.
And of course, why plagiarism is a crime, it may sometimes turn out to be unfair to artistes whose songs happened to fall under the evaluation criteria that the song sound similar for 7 octave bars. Furthermore, with various dance music and beats become trendy these days, as there is sampling in various parts of the song during the production, it may seem that some songs sound alike.
However, many composers are unaware of such pitfalls in making music lately, and one can only be more careful about it. Because once one’s music is being accused of plagiarism, one will have to bear the damages as the creator to the music.
Recently, 4Minute’s new song ‘HuH’ has also been accused of plagiarising ‘Patron Tequila’ by Paradiso Girls
