Apple sells 2 million iPads ahead of iPhone 4G / HD launch

Exactly one week ahead of WWDC 2010 (where the iPhone 4G / HD should be officially unveiled), Apple announced that it sold more than 2 million iPads worldwide – in less than two months since the iPhone OS-based tablet was launched (April 3).

The news comes only few days after Apple started shipping the iPad to international markets (including Canada, the UK, Germany and Japan).

Obviously, Steve Jobs had to use the word “magic” again when talking about the iPad:

“Customers around the world are experiencing the magic of iPad, and seem to be loving it as much as we do.”

Mr. Jobs’ definition of “magic” is rather distorted, and I think the iPad is as magical as the fake David Blaine is. It’s fun and entertaining, sure, but magical? Come on. Of course, this is just PR stuff, but sometimes it goes a bit too far.

The iPad is currently available in the US starting at $499 (the 16GB, 3G-less version), but it’s slightly more expensive in Europe. It will be launched in more countries starting July.
