First Look: Christina Aguilera In “Burlesque”
We’re getting our first look at pop siren Christina Aguilera in the upcoming movie musical Burlesque.
Aguilera, 29, teams up with entertainment icon Cher and acting vet Stanley Tucci — formerly of Heroes — in her acting debut. The film — written and directed by Steven Antin — follows the story of a small town girl from the School of the Hard Knocks vying to make it big in the City of Angels. She finds inspiration in club owner Tess (Cher) and a gay stage manager played by Tucci.
“The girl I play, Ali, has a rough past – her mother dies when she’s very young and she’s been in foster homes. I could relate to that pain, growing up in an abusive household,” Xtina explains. “That gave me great motivation to provoke my tears for those scenes where I had to really pour it on. I felt it deeply, to go through a lot of those things that brought up a lot of painful memories,” she adds.
“It wasn’t just a girl who comes to L.A. and makes it big. It was a girl who had suffered and felt pain, been in seven foster homes. She doesn’t let her past make her a victim. And that to me was so appealing.”
Burlesque opens in theaters Nov. 24.
