Titanic 3D Confirmed For April 2012

James Cameron has confirmed what had been speculated on for months: he will lead the project to transform Titanic into a new 3D presentation, on the 100th anniversary of the real Titanic ship sinking.

2012 will also mark the 15th anniversary of Cameron's record-breaking movie, which held the top spot of all box office sales for 13 years until Cameron outdid his own performance with 2009's Avatar.

Skeptics worry that a 3D conversion of the 1997 film will bring less than spectacular results. They point to movies like Clash of the Titans and Alice in Wonderland, which were not shot in 3D - critics ripped apart their poor 3D presentation and moviegoers griped about spending extra money for a lackluster experience.

However, Cameron has pledged to ensure that Titanic 3D will be a completely new experience from Titanic.

The question is whether or not Titanic 3D ticket sales will attach to the existing Titanic box office statistic. It won't topple over Avatar, which grossed more than $1 billion, but it could make it more impossible for other directors to eclipse the blockbuster film's sales numbers.
