Gwyneth Paltrow in Talks to Guest Star on 'Glee'; Carey Mulligan Reject

Looks like Fox's hit show 'Glee' can add another huge name to their list of season two guest stars: Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow. E!Online reports that the 'Shakespeare in Love' actress is in discussions to appear on a two-episode arc airing in November. And it sounds like she'll be singing!

Per reports, Paltrow will play a love interest for Will Schuester, played by Matthew Morrison. She'll play a substitute teacher who takes over the glee club when Mr. Schuester gets sick. The kids in the club apparently fall in love with her--as does Mr. Schuester which adds stress to his relationship with Emma, played by Jayma Mays.

E!Online also reports that 'Glee' creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy wrote the role specifically for Paltrow. Should the talks work out, he'll be directing her first episode, which reportedly starts shooting in two weeks. The actress and director previously worked together on the 2006 film, 'Running With Scissors.'

This won't be Paltrow's first time singing onscreen: she recorded and performed the song 'Cruisin'' with Huey Lewis for her movie 'Duets' and she performs quite a bit as a washed out country singer in her highly-anticipated upcoming film, 'Country Strong.'

Britney Spears and Javier Bardem are a few of the other A-list celebrities to bring their star power to the second season of 'Glee.' The new season kicks on Tuesday, September 21.

Carey Mulligan “Glee” Reject

Carey Mulligan is featured on the cover of the October issue Vogue, and has even been nominated for an Oscar, but apparently the star’s still not famous enough to appear on Glee.

Ever since her breakout role in 2009’s An Education, Carey Mulligan has emerged as Hollywood’s newest indie darling. The sophisticated fashionista even earned a Best Actress Emmy nomination for her portrayal of a sixties schoolgirl growing up in Mod-era London.

But there’s one gig that even Carey’s chic sense of style and cute pixie haircut can’t land her — a guest spot on one of television’s hottest shows. The fiesty and fiercely private starlet says she was taken aback when she was turned down for a role on FOX’s smash musical comedy because she is not well-known enough outside of the UK.

The British actress — who co-stars with boyfriend Shia LeBeouf and Oscar winner Michael Douglas in the new movie Wall Street 2 — tells Vogue she was flat out turned down by the creators of Glee when she asked to be on the show, which has featured a slew of stars including Neil Patrick Harris, Olivia Newton-John, and Idina Menzel.

“I really wanted to be in ‘Glee,’” she says. “I did ask about it, but I was told I wasn’t famous enough to have a cameo.”

Still, in the grand scheme of things, Carey reckons being “not famous enough” ain’t half bad.

“I don’t want to be ‘known.’ I’m afraid of being a ‘personality.’ On a talk show I feel I should just hold up a sign with the facts on it and leave. It wouldn’t take more than a minute, and they’d have room for other guests. I want people to not recognize me, to think I’m a different actress, not remember me from what I did previously.”
