'Scream 4' trailer: I scream, you scream, everyone in the cast screams
The Scream 4 trailer that debuted at the Scream Awards was appropriately scream-filled. (Watch it below courtesy of an attendee.) But was it actually scary? For me, the most chilling scene from any of the Scream movies is still the franchise opener of Drew Barrymore on the telephone, when she’s unable to yell out to her parents as they come home. That’s what horrifying — not her mother screaming when she finally sees her daughter hanging from a tree, stabbed multiple times. Building that kind of stomach-turning suspense takes time that a trailer (at least one debuting at the Scream Awards) won’t allow. But that’s the kind of clip I can’t wait to see. During daylight hours. Which is when I’ve seen all the Scream films.

As director Wes Craven says promisingly, “The first [Scream] was very much observing where horror had been for the last 10 to 20 years. And this is very much looking at where horror has been for the last 10 years. There’s always somebody trying to figure out what the rules are to keep from getting killed.”
