Archos 9 PC Tablet finally shipping: gets video unboxing
The Archos 9 PC Tablet has been a long time coming, with preorders for the touchscreen slate only beginning to ship this month. Steve over at UMPC Portal has managed to acquire one of the first units, and has unboxed and given a brief overview of the 1.1GHz Atom Z515 machine on video.
By now there’s not much to surprise us in the hardware. The Archos 9 has a 60GB hard-drive, 1GB of RAM and runs Windows 7 Starter, along with WiFi and Bluetooth (but no 3G), while up front there’s a webcam, optical mouse and 9-inch resistive touchscreen running at 1024 x 600.
Steve is finding that battery life works out to around three hours with the WiFi turned on and the screen brightness at 50-percent. It’s reasonably light but not so much that you could use it for that full three hours holding it in just one hand; that tallies with our own findings when we played with the Archos 9 back in September. We’re not, it has to be said, especially confident about the performance of that 1.1GHz processor, either. Still, we’ll reserve judgement until the reviews start coming through.
