Simon Cowell banks on the Cheryl Cole factor in America ... but Victoria Beckham's chances look slim

Cheryl Cole is being lined up to star in the American version of The X Factor.

The 26-year-old singer, who has enjoyed a successful run on the British show, is lined up to appear alongside Paula Abdul – who left rival show American Idol last year – and rap star Jay Z.

Simon Cowell was offered £200million to judge American Idol for a decade – but turned it away to launch The X Factor in the States.

He is determined to have Cheryl, left, on the show and has already told his aides to start house-hunting for her in Los Angeles.

‘Simon has asked Cheryl to join him on the panel for the debut of American X Factor and she’s delighted,’ says my source.

‘He has told her she will be an enormous hit and Cheryl is very keen as she wants to crack the States both as a singer and a TV personality.

‘She plans to travel to LA in the early summer and Simon will introduce her to a lot of influential people in the industry.'

A source close to Cowell said: ‘Simon thinks Cheryl is really warm, honest and funny and that she will be a huge success. Her name is definitely in the hat.’

Apparently reports that Victoria Beckham may land the job are wrong. ‘It is about as likely as her winning the lottery,’ the source added.

Her debut on American Idol last week drew bad reviews, including comments about her being too thin.
