TheStreet.com: Apple tablet headed to Verizon?

Armed with information from Northeast Securities analyst Ashok Kumar, TheStreet.com has boldly declared that the yet-to-be-announced Apple tablet will be headed to America’s largest carrier, Verizon Wireless. The report claims that in selecting Qualcomm as one of the tablet’s chip manufacturers Apple has unintentionally confirmed that tablet will be dancing, possibly exclusively, with Big Red. Analysts estimate that Verizon will subsidize about $200 of the Tablet’s price and require a two-year data service plan of around $60 a month. Apple is expected to sell the iTablet for around $800 without a subsidy. It also may come with some sort of “dock” that will provide physical keyboard connectivity and charging. Gigaom.com also added a few extra tablet tidbits from Kumar:

  • ARM Cortex (8) processor, licensed from Samsung
  • Samsung will be one of the suppliers of flash memory
  • Apple will enhance the video and graphic capabilities of the Cortex with the help of semiconductor company PA Semi

We’ve got the 27th circled on our calendars, but until then, let speculationpalooza continue, but we can’t imagine it would be exclusive to Verizon. Our bet is on AT&T with Verizon compatibility in addition to that.

More : Apple in talks with UK carriers to offer subsidized iTablet / iSlate?

A full week ahead of the grand Apple event set for January 27, rumors about the company’s iTablet / iSlate are showing up from all over the Web.

For example, Guardian.co.uk is implying that Apple has “approached” UK operators in order to negotiate a possible release of its upcoming tablet. Orange – which will likely offer the Apple tablet in France – is believed to be among these carriers. O2 and Vodafone are possibly in the game, too – especially since both are selling Apple’s iPhone in the UK.

A subsidized iTablet / iSlate would certainly attract more customers than an unsubsidized one – which could cost up to $1,000.

The Apple tablet is expected to be commercially available in the US starting March, but the UK will apparently get it later in the spring.

More Rumor: Apple's Tablet Will Be Shared By Family Members and Recognize Your Face Via Webcam!?

WSJ says Apple's been researching e-textbooks, as well as newspapers and magazines. Welcome to 2009 when we broke this story with 6 sources. But to credit, there's a lot more. And it's interesting.

Apple's been talking to CBS and Disney to get a monthly TV subscription deal going, and working with EA to demo how well games would work on the tablet. The Journal also reinforces the Bing on iPhone rumor we heard yesterday, making it seem like Apple's really taking an anti-Google stance.

Another bit we didn't know is that the tablet is supposedly shared among various people in the house, complete with sticky notes that you leave to other people. And, with the built-in webcam (which Gruber denies) it'll recognize you automatically. If all these rumors pan out, the tablet is kind of an all-in-one media consumption device, slurping down basically every sort of mass media humans have made since the printing press.
