Exclusive Jay Chou interview: businesses not for making money (new album in May)
Besides being the image consultant for Meters/bonwe, now he has his own brand and stores, we asked about tips on running a business, Jay Chou humbly expressed that he didn't open shops to make money, it was to fulfil his dreams. Jay Chou expressed that very early on he had wanted to open stores, it's actually a dream of his when he was little, he wanted to open a trainers store or sports brand store, because he liked basketball so he thought he could wear trainers without spending money. But it seems opening shops now isn't so good, you're basically losing money, his mother laughed at him saying: "Why don't you just donate your money rather than opening a store!" Jay Chou frankly said he started his business not to make money but to fulfil his dream, doing it with his friends, he could help his friends realise the dream together, and when they have nothing to do they have a place to gather.
Now Jay Chou is not just an artist, he has a lot of other identities, an actor in film, an actor on TV and a director, which role is the easiest for him? Jay Chou expressed that making music is still the best, having come out for so many years he's still more satisfied with being an artist. You could only say that making movies was a different path, he just wanted to see if the results of his new work could catch up with music, even though it wasn't as successful as music, but it was worth the effort, now his focus is different, he will continue according to plan and complete his identity transformation. If you were to say which identity he likes best, Jay Chou still thinks it's a tough choice, if you've worked on music for a while you want to change it up, if he had to say he would say being an MV director, this job has a short timescale but you get to see results very fast, it's full of the feeling of accomplishment.

When asked if among the identities there was a hardest one, Jay Chou didn't deny it and expressed it is directing a TV series, this job is a bit more tougher, it's something that doesn't come easily. The 30 episodes of "Pandamen", I filmed every one of them like a movie, it was so tough and hard, but you can't stop halfway through. If nothing particular happens, I won't be filming anymore TV series. Towards the results of "Pandamen", Jay Chou admitted expectations for "Pandamen" were too high at the beginning, he thinks such a piece of work that has so much heart should be able to get decent results, who would have thought the result would be so shocking. But he was still very confident of himself, he also urged his two good buddies Nan Quan Mama's Yuhao and Devon, "Don't lose heart, it hasn't reached the finishing line yet so who knows the result, I believe what we have given out will be rewarded."
Last year he was busy with two movies "The Treasure Hunter" and Hollywood movie "The Green Hornet", we wonder what other big plans he has for movies in 2010? For instance making a move into the overseas market. Jay Chou expressed: "Last year I was busy with movies for the whole year, indeed I showed my face less in other areas, but please rest assured this year I am coming back, I will bring a new album and concert." As for overseas development, Jay Chou thinks: "The Green Hornet was my first Hollywood movie, I'll wait until it shows and see the response before making a decision, if it does well I'll consider overseas development, I'm not greedy." If everyone wants to see his movies you might have to wait until 2012.
Jay Chou has announced his return to music in 2010, his new album however is still no where to be seen, when asked about its progress, Jay Chou admitted it might be a little later than the April date he said before, if no accidents happen it should be seeing everyone at the beginning of May. Right now the main thing is that there are a lot of commercials he has to finish filming, it's delayed the recording work, but the songs have been written already, you can rest assured about this point, the style is still Jay Chou's style of love songs, etc...even though he won't dare to say it will blow you away, but he guarantees you'll get more and more feeling as you listen to it, this is the surprise he is bringing. Later on in June he will be holding his world tour concert, he hasn't held a concert for a while so there's still some things he hasn't prepared, at present he is beginning the part where he picks songs, the other bits he will leave to his crew, they have worked together for so many years he trusts them very much.
As for the concert's style, what kind of new things will there be, Jay Chou smiled and expressed: "At the beginning I wanted to do some magic, everyone knows I like this, it's a pity that a lot of people have used it before I've held my concert, it seems like I should keep my mouth shut from now on so ideas don't get stolen." Of course he personally hopes to bring something different, so right now he is thinking hard on how to make a perfect performance that belongs only to Jay Chou? Everyone should wait and see in June at the Taipei Arena. At the end Jay Chou stressed, he hopes that there is a breakthrough at this concert, the Taipei stop has 3 sessions, he hopes the Hong Kong can surpass the 7 session record of last time, "I really admire some of the seniors in Hong Kong, they hold 10-20 sessions at a time at the Hong Kong Coliseum, I really admire their courage and strength, I also want to challenge myself to see if I can do it." This year Jay Chou's focus turns back to music, we believe his work won't disappoint.
