Verizon CEO hopes the carrier will sell a 4G iPhone

It’s not the first and certainly not the last time we’re hearing about an iPhone for Verizon, but this time it’s something we don’t get to see everyday: Verizon’s CEO himself (Ivan Seidenberg) declared that the largest US carrier would be open to offer the iPhone to its customers.

Moreover, according to Reuters, Mr. Seidenberg went even further by saying he hopes they’ll sell an Apple iPhone with support for the 4G / LTE network that Verizon is currently building.

This comes not long after we’ve heard that Apple’s upcoming iPhone could be called iPhone HD, and a version of it might hit Verizon in September.

So, will we really see a CDMA / LTE iPhone this year? It’s hard to tell, but this would certainly be a big step for both Apple and Verizon (which, by the way, is getting ready to launch the Google Nexus One, the HTC Incredible, and two Microsoft phones).
