It's hard to believe at first glance that this is the garish and outrageous Lady Gaga.
But on closer inspection, underneath that casual attire, the Telephone star is unmistakable.
The 24-year-old singer chose an unusually dressed-down outfit to go out for coffee on the day she was named the most important star in showbiz.
She left the rubber, lace and studs at home as U.S. magazine Time included her in the annual 100 'movers and shakers' list.
Her hair loose and unbrushed around her shoulders, she seemed a little taken aback as she was confronted by the cameras as she left the coffee shop with a friend on Thursday afternoon.
Maybe it was because she was caught wearing clothes not normally seen on the controversial singer.
Or maybe it was because the zipper on her shorts hadn't been fastened properly, leaving a gaping hole.
Of course, dressing down completely clearly wasn't an option for Gaga, who topped off her floral bomber jacket and pink shorts with some knee-length biker boots complete with metal shields.
She clutched her purse and her mobile phone as she made her way to a waiting Rolls Royce.
The singer is taking a well-earned break from her Monster Ball world tour, which she brings to the UK at the end of this month.
She recently claimed that she is never off duty and insisted that fashion is much more than just clothes to her.
She said: 'I consider myself to be a performance artist. Every time you see me, it's performance. When I'm sleeping, it's performance.'
Cyndi Lauper, 56, who was asked to write a tribute to Gaga said: 'Lady Gaga's art captures the period we're in right now.
'Her lyrics are incredibly literary. Most of the stuff on the radio is not very clever but Gaga prsents her ideas in a sophisticated manner. People forget how young she is.
'She isn't a pop act, she's a performance artist. She herself is the art. She is the structure.'
