Nokia, Yahoo to unveil “Project Nike” collaboration on May 24

Yahoo sent out an invite for an event that will take place on Monday (May 24) in New York. The company is about to announce something related to “providing global consumers with rich online and mobile experiences, and bringing forward a new era in keeping consumers connected.”
According to All Things Digital, the upcoming Yahoo event will unveil a deal with Nokia. Reportedly called “Project Nike” (nothing to do with the sportswear brand), the collaboration will bring Yahoo search, email and other services to select Nokia devices.
Some (or maybe all, I’m not sure here) Nokia S40 phones already use Yahoo services like Yahoo Go and Yahoo Ready.
Let me remind you that Yahoo has recently made a deal with Samsung (the world’s second largest phone maker, after Nokia) to preload Yahoo mobile services on Android and Bada smartphones.
Will Nokia also bring Yahoo to its Symbian^3 smartphones? It remains to be seen, but I can’t help noticing that this does make sense, since Google (Yahoo’s long-time rival) is now basically fighting with Nokia in the smartphone market with its Android platform. The important question here is: do Nokia users want Yahoo services on their phones? Google bests Yahoo when it comes to both mobile and standard Web search (in my eyes, at least), so unless this NokYah deal brings something absolutely awesome, lots of Nokia fans may not be too happy about it.
