Leehom Wang “smiles” when he sees Shanghai

Uh…sorry for the lame title...

We’ve been seeing a lot of wacky Leehom-Sharp lately, but it looks like he was back to his old self at the Shanghai World Expo yesterday. As the Taipei Pavilion's goodwill ambassador, Leehom Wang was one of the many performers featured on Taipei Day at the Expo.

Fans screamed when Leehom took the stage with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra (TSO). He kicked of the show with an upbeat remake of “I Smile When I See You (一見你就笑)”, followed by “Last Night”, “The One and Only” and “Open Your Heart”. During the last song, he added lines like “Taipei, Shanghai I love you” to please the local crowd.

After their successful performance, the TSO invited Leehom to collaborate again in June of next year. They hope to put on a show that combines classical and pop music at the National Concert Hall (NTCH). Interestingly, no pop star has ever successfully applied to perform at the prestigious venue, so Leehom will become the very first to do so.

In related news, he was voted #1 as in the Muzik magazine's "Search for Taiwan's Prince Chiaki (千秋王子)". The Williams College graduate began studying musical instruments at the age of 6. He performed Mambo by Leonard Bernstein with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra as a guest conductor in 2008.
