Nokia confirms Nseries MeeGo move
Nokia has officially confirmed that it is, indeed, switching its high-end Nseries devices to the MeeGo operating system once the Nokia N8 is out of the way. Reported yesterday by way of an aside from a Nokia Australia rep – and prompting doubt from many Nokia watchers – spokesperson Doug Dawson from the Finnish company told Reuters today that “Going forward, N-series devices will be based on MeeGo.”
MeeGo is a collaborative effort between Nokia and Intel, combining the former’s Maemo work – as most recently released on the N900 – and the latter’s Moblin project. It will presumably first debut on the Nokia N9, tipped to be a companion device for the N8, adding in a hardware QWERTY keyboard among other things.
