Nokia’s first MeeGo smartphone might be the Nokia N9, a slider that seems to take the N8 to the next level with the addition of a QWERTY keyboard.
There’s a leaked video on the Web that apparently shows an early version of the Nokia N9. And although we can’t confirm that this is indeed the real N9, Eldar Murtazin of Mobile-review says it is – or at least it’s a handset that “looks like the real one”.
Like the Nokia N97, the N9 has a tilting display (its resolution and size are not known – the display could have been bigger, though, given the smartphone’s overall size). The keys on the QWERTY keyboard look weird and too flat, but, as I said, this is likely an early rendering of the device.
No word on when the Nokia N9 will be announced. Anyway, here’s the leaked video:
Another new Nokia QWERTY handset is the X5-01, a square slider that has been officially announced in Singapore. The new X5 is quite different from the Nokia X5 announced in China a few months ago, and it’s targeted at young users. It features Symbian S60, social networking integration (Facebook, MySpace, YouTube), a small QVGA screen, and a 5MP camera.
The Nokia X5-01 will cost around €160 ($195), coming in lots of color versions, including pink, blue and lime/green. I really don’t like its design, but there are probably lots of users that will not be bothered by it. Hands-on video below:
Nokia X6 8GB also announced
While presenting the X5-01 slider in Singapore, Nokia has also announced a new version of the X6, namely the Nokia X6 8GB (this is the third version of the handset, after the X6 32GB and X6 16GB).
The new Symbian smartphone has a blue back case and, of course, it comes with only 8GB of internal memory.
Other than that, the X6 8GB is not at all different from the old X6, featuring a 3.2 inch touchscreen display with 360 x 640 pixels, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, Ovi Maps with free navigation, Bluetooth, stereo FM radio, 3.5mm headset jack, and 5MP Carl Zeiss camera with autofocus and flash.
Nokia X6 8GB will be available starting the third quarter of the year for only €225 (about $275). At this price, I can really see Nokia selling lots of X6 8GBs around the world.
