Jennifer Lopez Facing $40 Million Lawsuit Over Axed Cyprus Show

Jennifer Lopez is facing a $40 million lawsuit after scrapping a controversial show in Cyprus.

Apparently these people are under the misconception that we’re living in 2002 and J. Lo is still relevant. Who’s going to give them the bad news?

The singer was slated to perform at the opening of new hotel complex Cratos Premium in the Turkish Cypriot part of the popular tourist destination July 24 that conincided with the 36th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of the European island. Her decision to stage the show was slammed by officials at the Cyprus Action Network of America and Lopez subsequently withdrew from the gig.

“Jennifer Lopez would never knowingly support any state, country, institution or regime that was associated with any form of human rights abuse,” a rep for the “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” star told the press last week. “After a full review of the relevant circumstances in Cyprus, it was the decision of management to withdraw from the appearance. This was a team decision that reflects our sensitivity to the political realities of the region.”

The chief executive of the Turkish company that runs the hotel, however, has vowed to haul one of pop’s biggest asses into court for up to $40 million in damages if she does not fulfill the terms of her end of the contract.

“The contract has not been terminated. If she does not show up for the concert, we will begin a procedure in the courts to claim 35-40 million dollars in damages,” Murat Bozoglu remarked. “The cancellation… is not covered by any clause in the contract she signed with us.”
