Microsoft confirms Windows Phone 7 launch partners: HTC, Samsung, LG, Dell and Asus

We kind of already knew which hardware manufacturers plan to be the first to release Windows Phone 7 devices, but it’s good to see a confirmation from Microsoft.

Greg Sullivan, the company’s senior product manager, has recently talked to Pocket-lint, saying that HTC, Samsung, LG, Dell and Asus will all have WP7 handsets at launch.

Some of the handsets available on day one could be the LG Panther (pictured below), Dell Lightning, HTC Mondrian and HTC Mozart.

Mr. Sullivan also mentioned something about an LG Pacific – but it’s not clear if this is a completely new WP7 handset from the South Korean company, or just the Panther under a different name.

Talking about WP7 through the prism of the competition, Microsoft’s senior product manager said:

“We will offer the best aspects of Android and the best of the iPhone, giving users the flexibility of different form factors, but with the rigidity of apps that are guaranteed to work on every device that is out there”

The Redmond company hopes that by the time WP7 is launched, it “won’t have to worry about stealing customers from other operating systems,” because “there will be a new wave of smartphone users to embrace for us to still be successful”.

As mentioned before, Windows Phone 7 will be launched in time for this year’s holiday season, and most of the markets around the world should have WP7 devices before 2011 debuts.
