HTC September 15th smartphone launch could be Android or WP7

HTC has scheduled a press event for mid-September, presumably to launch their latest smartphone. The invite – which features a wisp of smoke covering what looks to be the faint outline of a handset – makes no reference to whether the launch is from HTC’s Windows Phone 7 or Android divisions, leaving us in the dark as to the exact identity of the device.

Of course, we do know two likely candidates. The HTC Desire HD has previously been tipped for a September unveil, basically bringing the EVO 4g to Europe only without the WiMAX connectivity. However more recently we’ve seen the HTC Schubert and HTC Mozart, two Windows Phone 7 devices; a mid-September debut could fit in well with Microsoft’s own plans to release the new smartphone OS in October in Europe.

Coincidentally, the HTC event is taking place on the second day of Nokia World 2010, also being held in London. However we can’t imagine HTC are planning to unveil their first Symbian^3 handset.
