Lady Gaga Scores Record-Breaking 13 MTV Video Music Award Nominations

Anyone who thinks Lady Gaga is overhyped might want to avoid the MTV Video Music Awards next month.

Why? Because the "Bad Romance" singer scored a whopping 13 nominations for the Sept. 12 bash, the most nods ever received by a single artist in a single year, ever. Hear that, Little Monsters? Ev. Er.

Nipping at her ridiculously high and balance-threatening heels is Eminem, whose collaboration-heavy comeback album Recovery earned him a second-best eight.

Also scoring noms were Gaga accomplice Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Drake, Ke$ha, Jay-Z, Katy Perry, Alicia Keys (and new hubby Swizz Beatz!), Usher, Pink, Rihanna, Jason Derulo, Coldplay and Taylor Swift.

And, good news for fans of a rematch, Kanye West.

No doubt MTV's first piece of business will be to do their predictable best to reunite the teen dream with her interrupting adversary at some point during the night. After all, they know a watercooler-worthy copresenter pairing when they hear it.

As for those boasting the honor of record-breaking nominations, Gaga's haul included kudos for Best Pop Video, Best Dance Music Video, Best Female Video and Best Choreography for "Bad Romance," along with a Best Collaboration nod for her Beyoncé-assisted (and if you'll allow us the brief tooting of our own horn, E! Online-debuting!) "Telephone."

Let this be a lesson for all the superstars out there: stick with us, kids, you'll go far.

As it happens, her toughest competition may prove to be herself, since both of her nominated videos will go head-to-head in the Best Choreography and Video of the Year categories.

Further splitting the ballot? Beyoncé's "Video Phone," on which Gaga lent some vocal assistance, is also up for five nods, many of which are pitted against the Lady. Which are exactly the kind of problems pop stars like to have.

"I'm so honored for all the little monsters and self-professed freaks of the universe, to have more VMA nominations in a single year than any artist in MTV history," she said. "Ironically, I'm even more proud it's an unlucky number: 13."

See? Who needs the Grammys.

"A long time ago the world told me and my little monsters we would never be heard, together we changed the rules," she went on. "God put me on Earth for three reasons: to make loud music, gay videos and cause a damn raucous. Thank you, MTV!"

As for Eminem, he too expressed his gratitude—we think—in a statement to the music net.

"Apparently MTV doesn't care that I have two massive stadium shows on the other side of the country the day after the VMAs. F me, right?!?! I mean, I'll be there, but don't expect me to be nice about it."

We wouldn't dream of it.

Ke$ha, too, has already responded to her three nominations, albeit in a less prepared statement than her peers. Although, she has good reason for that.

The "Tik Tok" singer was surprised with her nods by none other than E!'s own Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show this morning.

"Are you serious?" she shrieked down the line. "Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god! I'm gonna pee myself."
