Samsung isn’t the only South Korean hardware maker that sells millions of smartphones. LG has just announced that the affordable Optimus One – launched worldwide last month – has been sold in more than 1 million units until now (40 days after launch).
I don’t remember LG selling over 1 million units of a single smartphone, ever, so the company should probably thank Google for developing Android – the Optimus One runs Android 2.2 Froyo, and this is one of the reasons it’s so popular.
Off contract, the Optimus One costs about $300. In the US, the smartpohne is known as Optimus T at T-Mobile, and Optimus S at Sprint. It will also be launched by Verizon (on November 18) as LG Vortex.
