Rihanna goes to great lengths to turn heads in Times Square with a new hairdo and tiny hotpants
Rihanna took over Times Square today with a traffic-stopping performance ahead of her Loud album release.
The flame-haired pop star performed her number one single What's My Name? for MTV's The Seven.
She was sporting a sleek new hairstyle after swapping her bob for a long weave in the same shade.
She whipped her new locks around as she cavorted across the stage in a printed jacket, a black T-shirt and yellow and grey hot pants.
After the performance, Rihanna told the crowd: 'Thank you, New York! It's amazing! It's a lot of people.
'I'm really excited. I'm looking forward to sharing it with the world. I want everybody to get Loud tomorrow.'
Of the new release, which has a lighter tone, Rihanna says: 'I'm forever changing, growing, so it'll never be the same thing.
'This album for me was really my way of expressing myself to the fans in an unapologetic way.'
She also talked to The Seven hosts about collaborating with Canadian artist Drake for What's My Name?
'We know each other,' she said. 'We're good friends. It's easy for us to work together.'
Rihanna is currently celebrating a stellar few weeks in the charts with two separate singles at number one on either side of the pond.
Hit track Only Girl in the World, which she performed a fortnight ago on the X Factor, has remained at number one in the UK for a second consecutive week.
