America Ferrera “In Denial” Over “Ugly Betty” Cancellation
It’s been nearly a month since ABC bosses announced that the current fourth season of the network’s once popular dramedy Ugly Betty will be its last, but series star America Ferrera is still “in denial” that Betty has been cancelled.
The actress has portrayed frumpy NYC fashion mag assistant Betty Suarez on the award-winning program since 2006 and is devastated that it is about to end. One reason America is so disappointed to say goodbye to Betty because is because the role has helped her evolve as a person.
“I’ve lived with this character who I’ve loved from day one and I have only grown to feel more connected to her and also responsible for making sure her journey is a complete one. Her entire journey was about a transformation, kind of coming into her womanhood and owning herself both physically and emotionally. It’s hard to say goodbye. I haven’t really started going there yet because I still have four episodes to shoot. So I’m staying in denial for now and I’ll deal with all those emotions in a little bit. I imagine that when we finally wrap it’s not going to be a dry-eyed goodbye…..” America tells Parade Magazine this week.
