Nicholas Tse Practicing Hard on "Shaolin" Set

Actor Nicholas Tse is practicing diligently in preparation for his upcoming fight scene against co-star Andy Lau in the star-packed kung-fu blockbuster "Shaolin", M1905.com reports.

The film, directed by Denny Chan and Corey Yuen, began shooting in early January, 2010. Bingbing Fan is the female lead and Jackie Chan will be making an appearance.

Before production had begun, Andy Lau began learning the Shaolin "seven star" boxing style specially for the film. This martial art grounding helped him handle the fight scenes with ease, even allowing him the spare time for an impromptu barbeque on a heater on set.

Although Nicolas Tse did not have as much time to practice due to a tightly packed schedule, the self-proclaimed kung-fu fanatic quickly caught up with crew and choreographers. He has communicated openly about his strengths and weaknesses to help come up with fight routines suited to him. He jokes that he is no longer afraid of Lau's seven star boxing.

Meanwhile, Tse is also working hard on his image in the film, hoping to create a brand new character completely unique from his previous works.

One month into shooting, the film has made good progress despite extreme weather conditions on set. Denny Chan is satisfied with the way the cast members have quickly slipped into character. Jackie Chan is expected to join the group shortly after the Chinese Spring Festival.

To lend an air of authenticity to the film, directors Chan and Yuen have recruited some real-life monks to the cast, and even the extras have been selected through a rigorous process.
