WangXi Entertainment 28 May Reports: Idol drama "Calling For Love", which is the collaboration of China and Taiwan including Hongkong, took over "Autumn Concerto" showing at CTS. This drama is led by Charlene Choi and Mike He with Taiwan's Idol Drama Sect-Mother Angie Chai as the producer, hence, with a mighty team, but the ratings of the first episode has yet to break 1, not even exceeding "Autumn Concerto" which is showing its second round now. In the two episodes of "CFL" which was broadcasted previously, the story developed slowly, the kiss between male number one and supporting actor did not catch the audience's eyes. This is related to Ah Sa's position in Taiwan's filming market, and it is also related to the producer.

Before showing, the gimmicks was plently, however, when showing the feeling was weak.

Before "Calling For Love" was broadcasted, it had already earned sufficient eyeballs, Mike He matching Ah Sa for a relationship; this combination is out the expectation yet logical. Adding that the producer is Angie Chai, with the addition of mainland fresh blood actors, this drama had the ambition of being an idol drama that would sweep all China, Taiwan and Hongkong. "Calling For Love" accompanied with the name of "Mike returning to Taiwan idol drama", this drama had already aroused high discussion interest even before it was broadcasted. A forum was also filled with speculations about the male and female actors, it was quieter when it broadcasted in contrast.

Other than endless news, male and female leads showing for promotion, [Calling For Love] before broadcasting kept using the storyline as the gimmick. No more softie female lead, changing into a well-versed in both physical and literature female driver; no more rich play boy male lead, changing into a star who does not want to be a star. In contrast, it was more low profile when showing.

Without a bombarding drama preview, even the previews are short and poignant, a love-who-who look. Also, Ah Sa who is in the 'divorce scandal' did not come to Taiwan to promotion, the Taiwan idol drama audience who aren't familiar with Ah Sa can only hear her but not see her in person, thus, hard to invoke much interest due to the female lead. These are causes that lead to the low attention of "Calling For Love" when showing, naturally, the ratings for the first episode won't be good.

Ah Sa Unfamiliar Face, Mike He Holds the Situation

Taiwan televsion becoming more localized is very obvious, from the dramas and variety shows that has been hogging onto the ratings champion. Throughout all Taiwan variety shows, he appearance of artistes are very high due to Taiwan variety shows, firstly rich resources, secondly it is related to Taiwan audience's taste. In Taiwan entertainment business is more like a service industry, but not an industry at the high end. In their eyes, there is only difference between big shots and little nobody, but no difference between stars and audience. Therefore, those who always show their faces and joking or laughing second grade artistes are always far from the first grade which is more attractive. Ah Sa who has yet to develop her market in Taiwan fully suffers from the "unfamiliar face" disadvantage. It doesn't mean that Ah Sa doesn't not have great appeal in Taiwan but it is definitely not in Idol Drama circle.

Luckily Mike He, whom Calling For love was named to be his drama of sincere return to the Idol drama circle, has good appeal. This is clearly visible from the huge fan base which gathering the ratings. Recent years, he has been concentrating on Hongkong and mainland developments, other than completing his first era drama "Infernal Lover", he also ventured into the big screen, collaborating with Andy Lau in "Future Cops" etc. And "Calling For Love" depicted a love story of a big star and a female driver. Mike He was basically acting as himself, standing some advantage. His experience from the collaboration with different actors of China, Taiwan and Hongkong has also made his performing skills and character intepretation has more levels. This is visible from his performance in "Fall in Love at 7th Sight". But Mike He was just satisfactory in the first two episodes without too much extension, this should be related to the plot, not knowing how his performance will be after.

Chicken Ribs Supporting Roles Anticipate Breakthrough

The one we are referring to here is the number threes male and female. The actors performance is neither commendable nor bad, it is hard to tell anything from the first two epsidoes. however, if the characters setting and the actors did not have much development highlights, then, it will make us feel that the arrangement is too much, wasting the resources.

The male number three is actor Wang Kai from mainland, once acted in the pop drama "Ugly Betty Mighty". In "CFL" he acts as the male leads "Brother-in-law to be". Wang Kai looks handsome and with a certain performing skills, in the collab drama acting as a character, whether his performance is good or bad, it is a bonus for him. But acting with him is also actress from mainland Li Sheng, also first time acting in Idol drama. To the Taiwan audience, the two of them are unfamiliar faces, Li Sheng did not have acting skills that will make everyone remember at once. Thus, it did not seems to have much use for this drama.

Isn't it more gimmick-ful to see Taiwan and Hongkong actors acting together? The girl acting as "sister" and the man acting as "brother-in-law to be", this line seems to be able to happen separately, other than the blood relation, the link between the main line and sub line is vague. Lets see if the plot development will have more surprises.
