Listen up, Music Buffs! “California Gurls” — the new single from soon-to-bride Katy Perry — arrived online on Friday. The uptempo track features a brass Katy singing along with Long Beach capo Snoop Dogg.
Perry even Tweeted about the track earlier this week, writing to her 1 million-plus followers: “Having a dance party in car right now in Times Square dancing 2 my song California Gurls… We’re gonna have so much fun this summer! Gahhh!”

California may not the “concrete jungle where dreams are made of” — unless of course we’re talking about Los Angeles — but Katy Perry still thinks her homestate deserves a new anthem.
In an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine last month, Katy reveals that she’d put down tracks on the single — a response to “Empire State of Mind,” the award-winning single Jay-Z and Alicia Keys recorded in honor of their beloved Big Apple.
“It’s so great that ‘Empire State of Mind’ is huge and that everyone has the New York song, but what the f**k? What about LA? What about California?” Katy said at the time. “It’s been a minute since we had a California song and especially from a girl’s perspective. We took the references of Prince, which is always a great reference, and some of the ’90s, almost house music references.”
Katy’s third album is expected to drop this summer.
