'True Blood' Star Anna Paquin on Why She Came Out as Bisexual
Earlier this year, 'True Blood' and 'X-Men' star Anna Paquin surprised Hollywood when she announced she was bisexual in a PSA for the Give a Damn campaign. It was the first time the actress, who is engaged to 'True Blood' co-star Stephen Moyer, made her sexual preferences public.
Now, Paquin is revealing why. The actress told Zap2It why she spoke up and why she didn't think she'd done anything remarkable by coming out.
"I'm not someone who endlessly talks about her personal life for no reason, but obviously, as someone who identifies as bisexual, those are issues I really care about -- and frankly, I don't see why everyone doesn't care about them, " the actress said. "So when I was asked to participate in that PSA, it was just an obvious, 'Well, of course I will.'"
Paquin continues, "It wasn't like it was a big secret. It was just a cause I cared about and privately supported, but not one that I had ever had an opportunity to speak out about in a way that would be useful. Obviously I know that one person's voice doesn't necessarily do that much, but I just wanted to do my bit."
The Give a Damn campaign is one of several projects of the True Colors Fund, a non-profit founded by Cyndi Lauper.
