Ancient time-costume romantic comedy movie "The Jade and the Pearl" will hit theatre screens mid-August. In the movie, Joey Yung breaks through her previous image, portraying a character resembling a brigand female queen.
In the movie starring Charlene Choi and Raymond Lam with secondary characters Joey Yung and Wong Cho Lam, Joey Yung acts as a brigand female queen (Cottage king), brave and fierce, rough and masculine. Joey Yung revealed that the director intentionally arranged for her to eat more, for the sake of gaining weight. Regarding for the first time starring in a movie, her on-screen image is a bit "ugly," but she expressed that she's very happy, "I hope to be like Karen Mok in "Shaolin Soccer", that sort of not having anything holding back." Joey also revealed that in the funny plot: "This female brigand has lots of funny behaviour, for example setting her mind to thinking a written war challenge is a love letter, the people she is the leader of are equally as clumsy as her, brave but without any plans, actually this female thief is very witty, innately with a desire to steal, making the movie filled with a comedy feel."
Even though filming was very satisfying, Joey expressed that she will not fully invest everything into being on the big screen: "When it's all said and done, I'm a singer, singing is my main job. Also in comparison with my singing, I think filming movies gives me greater pressure, on the stage I have so much fan support, but for movies you have to wait until after filming is completed to know the outcome."
Starring with good sister Charlene Choi in "The Jade and the Pearl", both have followed EEG for 10 years. Regarding some people who say that she and Charlene Choi are competing to be EEG's #1 Big Sister, Joey was asked: "Some people say, you and Ah Sa both have the potential to become the leaders of Hong Kong's new generation of female artists. Furthermore, the outside world has different opinions about which one of you two is ultimately "EEG's #1 Big Sister." What's your take on this question?" To this, Joey replied: "Actually this so-called striving to be the #1 elder sister is just something that's been spread by the public, my relationship with Ah Sa is pretty good, between us there isn't even the idea of fighting to become #1 elder sister to talk about. I feel that we've expanded in different areas, I don't believe that we have any competition."
