Nokia C7 leaks again, looks sexier this time
The leaks of the Nokia C7 are ramping up, so it may be safe to say that it will get announced during Nokia World in September.
We’ve first seen the C7 about two months ago, with the leak of some pictures of its black variant. Then, an XML file on Nokia’s own website confirmed its existence and impending release. Not long ago, an ad for it showed up somewhere in Hong Kong.
And now we have a full hands-on photo session with the Nokia C7 in China.
The phone will have a 3.5″ capacitive touchscreen (we’ve heard it both ways on this – there’s also the possibility it will be 3.3″), run Symbian^3 like its bigger brother, the N8, and come with an 8 MP autofocus camera with dual LED flash but, rather surprisingly, sans Carl Zeiss branding. That probably shows that this handset will be priced well below the aforementioned N8.
Also of note is that this smartphone looks a lot better in these pictures than it did in those leaked before. It may be the different color, as this one is a bronze reminiscent of the N97 Mini. It’s also got quite a bunch of metal parts in it, which is something that was impossible to tell by looking at the black model.
Chrome details are everywhere, the battery cover seems to be all metal, and hence it does remind me a bit of Eseries devices such as the E52 and E55. Perhaps it will turn out to be a good cross between Nseries and Eseries in the end, as there still is a lot of plastic in it.
It doesn’t have the HDMI out port of the N8, but, again, given the predicted price range for this handset, that’s to be expected. It does have both microUSB and the proprietary Nokia 2mm charging port, which begs the question of how it charges. The best case scenario here would be that it’s able to use both connection types, but nothing is certain yet.
Its battery is disappointingly only 1200 mAh, like the N8. Nokia can say all they want that they’ve optimized the software for long battery life, but the simple fact is that when you have 1500 mAh batteries available, going for inferior capacity for the sake of a millimeter or a couple of bucks, while risking annoying your customers, is rather insane.
Internal memory (Disk C: for Symbian fans) seems to be more than enough, thankfully.
How much oomph its processor packs is unknown at this point. But it being anything less than the ARM11 600 MHz found in the E55 and E52 would probably not go well with the crowd used to 1 GHz Snapdragons everywhere. And anything less than 256 MB of RAM would make it barely usable for multitasking, so I hope Nokia have learned the lessons of the past on this one.
If so, and if, as is expected, its price will be around 300 Euros upon launch, it may sell quite well.
As of now, the rumored release for this device is at the end of October. We’ll keep you posted.
