There’s a software update out for the Samsung Captivate, AT&T’s Galaxy S, just as we reported yesterday that it would be. This is not the upgrade to Android 2.2 Froyo, but an Android 2.1 update that yesterday looked rather minor. Widely reported across the blogosphere was the fact that this update did not address the GPS fix issues that many people have been facing on their Captivate smartphones.
Well, today brings some good news. It turns out that wasn’t true, and the update does indeed fix the GPS reception problems people were having. Samsung officially set the record straight by saying this:
“An update to improve the Samsung Captivate’s GPS performance is now available. Captivate customers will receive a notification on their device that an update is available and will simply need to download the file to update their phone. The updates will be pushed to customers’ devices over the next few weeks.
The update for the Captivate will also improve additional device functions, such as media scanning time, add the full version of Quickoffice and address Microsoft Exchange 2003 policy support.”
If you read our post from yesterday, that’s really all the news there is. The other improvements were already known to be coming. Also, it looks like the update won’t be pushed just during this week, as previously rumored, but the roll-out will last for a few weeks.
If you don’t like waiting, you can always manually check if the update is available for your phone. You may, however, have to wait 24 hours between such checks.
